Our resident Football Manager expert has recreated 5 legendary Premier League managers tactics in FM 26 – do not miss this one!
If there’s one thing we can all agree on about the new Football Manager 2026, it’s that the new tactics are fun. Whether you disagree about if they’re better than previously, or about how much they break the match engine, you can’t deny their part in allowing far greater tactical flexibility. So I’ve decided to have a bit of fun and recreate five iconic managers tactics on Football Manager 2026. If people enjoy this, let me know by messaging me, as I thoroughly enjoyed making these and tinkering with tactics to see how close I could get to their real-life tactics. We have some of the greatest managers ever and some of the most revolutionary tactics in the following article. Enjoy.
Pep’s football is built around control: a 3-2 build-up, five-lane attack and full-backs who step inside to form midfield overloads. FM26’s Inside Full-Backs and Inside Wing-Backs let you recreate this structure almost perfectly.

In Possession Roles (3-2-5)
Out of Possession Roles (4-1-4-1)
Mentality: Positive

Shorter passing, slightly higher tempo, play out through the press, short goalkicks to the centre backs, fairly wide, work ball into box, counter-press, hold shape, high line, higher press, step up more, trap outside, get stuck in, prevent short goalkeeper distribution.

Klopp’s best Liverpool sides ran on intensity: aggressive pressing, wide creativity and fast vertical attacks. FM26’s pressing roles let you recreate the chaos without breaking your defensive line.
In Possession Roles (4-3-3)
Out of Possession Roles (4-1-4-1)
Mentality: Attacking

Much higher tempo, run at defence, early crosses, progress through flanks, quick goalkeeper distribution, counter-press + counter, higher line, much higher LOE, trap inside, get stuck in.

Bielsa’s 3-3-3-1 is legendary: a back three, midfield three, attacking width, an advanced playmaker and a hyper-mobile striker. FM26 finally lets you build this shape exactly as intended.
In Possession Roles (3-3-3-1)
Out of Possession Roles
MentalityAttacking

Much higher tempo, slightly more direct, run at defence, play through press, short goalkicks to centre backs, distribute quickly, work ball into the box, progress through both flanks, low crosses, counter-press, counter, much higher lines, trap inside, get stuck in, no offside trap.
Sir Alex Ferguson – 4-4-2

This recreates United’s classic wide, fast and flexible 4-4-2: wingers stretching play, a dynamic midfield pairing, and two strikers who rotate naturally.
In Possession Roles (4-4-2)
Out of Possession Roles
Mentality: Positive

Conte’s Chelsea relied on a structured back three, disciplined wing-backs and devastating transitions.
In Possession Roles (3-4-3)
Out of Possession Roles
Mentality: Positive

Slightly shorter passing, standard/higher tempo, play down flanks, work into box, low crosses, regroup or counter-press, counter, standard line, trap outside.
FM26 is the best version of Football Manager for recreating real tactical systems, in my opinion. The separation of in-possession and out-of-possession roles allows for even more realistic tactics. Which tactics would you like me to recreate next? Let me know in the comment section!
