The Craziest Stadiums in FM26 – from Arctic furnaces to Altitude Traps

With the eagerly anticipated launch of BassyBoy’s new Stadium Pack Mod for FM26. We thought we’d take a look at some of the craziest stadiums that are currently in the game. I’m sure the legend Bassy has enough on his plate, so instead we may have to dream about how fun it would be to for these stadium graphics to be introduced. Imagine stepping out into an Arctic wilderness, or a valley of mountains to manage your team. Now that could definitely add some of the immersion FM26 seems to have been missing.

There’s something uniquely gripping about stadiums in general. They’re more than geometry and seating: they’re cultural landmarks, meteorological hazards, logistical nightmares and psychological battlegrounds. FM26 brings with it it’s own set of stadium challenges. Some grounds challenge your tactics; others challenge your players’ lungs, nerves or body temperature. For managers who love unusual, difficult or downright bizarre away days, here is a look at the wildest stadium extremes you can actually encounter in FM26 — the coldest, hottest, highest, lowest, most remote, smallest-town, oldest, smallest and most intimidating grounds in the database.

Criteria — how the selections were made

Every stadium listed here appears in FM26. Once confirmed, each entry was assessed using publicly known real-world attributes: climate data, altitude, city population, opening dates and stadium capacity. For “most intimidating”, crowd culture and well-documented atmosphere played a role, ensuring the pick reflects real fear factor, not just noise level.

The aim wasn’t to compile a “best” list, but rather to identify stadiums at the extreme ends of geography, culture and history — the ones that make away days feel like a story, not just a fixture.

The Extremes

Coldest — Romssa Arena, Tromsø (Norway)

Sitting inside the Arctic Circle, Tromsø’s home ground is the definitive cold-weather stadium in FM26. Matches here can resemble survival drills: swirling snow, long nights, icy wind and the constant threat of postponement. A true specialist environment.

Hottest — King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia)

At the other end of the spectrum, Riyadh’s flagship stadium regularly hosts games in blistering heat. Managing here forces careful squad rotation, pre-match hydration and tactical tempo control to stop your team melting after 30 minutes.

Highest Altitude — Estadio Hernando Siles, La Paz (Bolivia)

The stadium is perched over 3,600 metres above sea level, making it the highest major ground in FM26. Altitude sickness, slower recovery, altered ball flight — it all hits visiting teams hard. One of FM’s most famous natural advantages.

Lowest Altitude — Multiple Dutch Stadiums (example: De Kuip, Rotterdam)

Large parts of the Netherlands sit at or even below sea level. While not dramatic like La Paz, Dutch grounds are among the lowest in FM26. This creates a different kind of “extreme”: constant wind, slick turf and a heavy technical emphasis in the football culture.

Most Remote — Romssa Arena, Tromsø (again)

Tromsø takes another category: reaching the club often requires multi-leg travel, winter-proof logistics and evening matches in total darkness. In FM terms, this is the single most geographically isolated top-flight-level away day you’ll encounter.

Smallest Population — Rheinpark Stadion, Vaduz (Liechtenstein)

Vaduz is tiny — the idea of continental football being played in a town with a few thousand residents remains one of FM’s great quirks. A surreal mix of European prestige and village-size surroundings.

Oldest Stadium — Sandygate, Sheffield (Hallam FC)

Appearing in the lower tiers included within FM’s extended database, Sandygate is acknowledged as the oldest football ground still in use. Managing here feels like dipping into the sport’s archaeology.

Smallest Stadium (Capacity) — Hop Oast Stadium, Horsham (or similar micro-grounds in FM’s deeper English pyramid)

Hop Oast Stadium is the smallest stadium in the National League South, with a capacity of only 1,300. FM26’s extended English database includes numerous semi-professional grounds under 6,000 capacity, some under 5,000, and several with only a few hundred seats. These are stadiums where you can literally hear individual fans yelling instructions — charming, claustrophobic, and brutally honest.

Most Intimidating — Stadion Rajko Mitić (Marakana), Belgrade

No corporate polish. No polite clapping. The Marakana is a cauldron of flares, roar, hostility and an ultras culture known across Europe for its intensity. Away teams don’t just face Red Star — they face an atmosphere heavy enough to alter the pulse of a match. In FM terms, it’s easily one of the hardest places on the continent for morale, discipline and momentum.

Most Picturesque – Estádio Municipal de Braga (Portugal)

Now even though Italy and Norway are littered with striking scenery, there is nothing quite like the Estádio Municipal de Braga. The stadium is carved directly into a granite quarry wall, with the opposite stand opening into a sweeping valley. Instead of a roof, huge steel tension cables stretch across open sky like the rigging of a ship. It’s part stadium, part geological monument, and easily one of the most visually striking arenas in world football.

Conclusion

FM26 is packed with oddities beyond this list. There are island stadiums where the crowd outnumbers the population, temporary grounds borrowed during renovation periods, altitude-lite stadiums in unexpected countries, multi-purpose ovals repurposed for football, and clubs that play European qualifiers in quirky alternative venues.
