2026 World Cup MD2 Anytime Goal Scorer & Assist Odds: Who’s Due Returns

With the group stage entering a crucial phase, World Cup Fantasy managers face some big decisions. Whether you’re activating substitutions after early blanks or searching for the perfect captaincy candidate, bookmaker goalscorer and assist odds are among the best indicators available.

While odds are never a guarantee of returns, they represent the collective expectations of the betting market and can often provide a clearer picture than recent form alone.

The reason we have kept goals and assists separate is simple: goals are worth more Fantasy points. Combining the two into a single goal involvement figure can sometimes hide who the true premium captaincy candidates are. A player with a 60% chance of scoring and a 20% chance of assisting is generally a stronger Fantasy asset than someone with a 35% chance of scoring and a 40% chance of assisting.

The Markets Have Identified Four Standout Fixtures

Looking through the odds, there is a very clear trend emerging.

Bookmakers are particularly bullish on:

  • France vs Iraq
  • Brazil vs Haiti
  • Spain vs Saudi Arabia
  • England vs Ghana

Not surprisingly, the players dominating the goalscorer and assist markets all come from these nations. If your squad is loaded with French, Brazilian, Spanish or English assets, you are sitting in a very strong position heading into this round.

Kylian Mbappé Leads the Way

Mbappé tops the anytime goalscorer market with a huge 66.7% implied probability.

That is an enormous number in tournament football and immediately makes him the standout captaincy option on the board. When you also factor in his 29.4% assist probability, he has multiple routes to a double-digit Fantasy haul.

For managers still holding the captaincy chip, Mbappé is arguably the safest play available.

The Premium Captain Tier

Just behind Mbappé sits a group of elite options.

Cristiano Ronaldo carries a 61.9% chance of scoring, while Mikel Oyarzabal sits at 60.0%.

Vinícius Júnior, Harry Kane and Enner Valencia all come in at 57.9%.

Of these players, Vinícius stands out as the most complete Fantasy asset. Not only is he among the favourites to score, he also leads the assist market with a 45.5% probability. That combination of goal threat and creativity gives him one of the highest ceilings in the game.

Kane is also extremely attractive from a Fantasy perspective. His assist odds are relatively modest at 22.2%, but England’s attack is expected to create plenty of opportunities against Ghana and Kane remains the focal point of almost everything they do in the final third.

Oyarzabal is perhaps the most interesting option. Spain are expected to dominate possession against Saudi Arabia, and his combination of a 60% scoring chance and 29.4% assist chance makes him one of the most well-rounded captaincy candidates available.

The Case for Lamine Yamal

If there is one player capable of matching the premium forwards despite slightly lower scoring odds, it is Lamine Yamal.

The Spanish winger has a 51.2% chance of scoring and a huge 42.1% chance of assisting.

Those numbers are elite across both categories and demonstrate how involved he is in Spain’s attack. Even if he does not find the net himself, the chances of him contributing to a goal remain extremely high.

For managers looking to make up ground, Yamal feels like one of the strongest differential captain options available.

Don’t Ignore the Creative Players with Captaincy

While goalscorer odds naturally attract most of the attention, assist markets can reveal some hidden gems.

Michael Olise has a 48.8% chance of scoring and a massive 45.5% chance of assisting. That gives him one of the strongest combined attacking profiles in the entire player pool. Not least considering players receive points for chances created.

Raphinha is another standout. His 52.4% scoring probability is already excellent, but when combined with a 38.1% assist probability he becomes one of the most attractive Brazilian assets outside of Vinícius.

Bruno Fernandes also deserves attention. A 42.1% chance of scoring and a 38.1% chance of assisting means he could easily outscore more popular captain picks if Portugal enjoy a productive day.

Final Thoughts

The betting markets are sending a very clear message this gameweek.

France, Brazil, Spain and England are expected to be the biggest attacking forces, and Fantasy managers should look to maximise exposure to those teams wherever possible. Be it through subs or captaincy.

Mbappé remains the standout captaincy choice, Vinícius offers arguably the best balance of goals and assists, while Yamal provides one of the most exciting differential routes to a major haul.

When deciding who to substitute in, who to captain, or which late-game players deserve your trust, following the goalscorer and assist markets remains one of the simplest and most effective strategies available.

Sometimes the smartest Fantasy decisions are also the most obvious ones.
