Spring has firmly been sprung, and with the sunshine and flowers, the end of the season is drawing ever closer with one big prize still to be won. The FA Cup final between Manchester City and Crystal Palace is scheduled for Saturday 17th May, which for us FPL enthusiasts is better known as being in the midst of GW37 (sorry to dampen the magic somewhat).

In my soul, I don’t feel like this should be allowed – if the Community Shield is the traditional curtain-raiser for the Premier League season, then the FA Cup final should be whatever the opposite of that is and hosted after the last round of Prem fixtures. Alas, in charge of the schedules I am not.

City and Palace were scheduled to play against Bournemouth and Wolves respectively on that weekend and both fixtures have been pushed back a few days to allow them to compete for the FA Cup. City-Bournemouth and Palace-Wolves will now take place on the following Tuesday, the 20th of May.

What this means for anyone looking to seek out any fixture changes for chip or transfer use is business as usual – the fixtures will remain in GW37, with the game week ending at the conclusion of Tuesday’s matches.

So, if you’re like me and have used up all of your chips since the international break, this is a slice of wonderful news for any planning as you won’t be failing to capitalise on any players doubling in matches or on the receiving end of anyone without a game. If you were looking to gamble and keep a chip or two to navigate FA Cup final re-planning, hard luck – although the chips could still be deadly if used well regardless.

It’s not all doom and gloom though – Spurs have requested to have their fixture away against Aston Villa rescheduled due to their Europa League commitments. The Premier League are in discussion with both sides about facilitating this, and this will need to be resolved pretty quick with the game less than two weeks away on Sunday 18th May. I’d be surprised if any move is allowed at this point, and it will probably remain in GW37 even if moved, but something to certainly keep an eye on for any end-of-season.
