Gameweek 35: FPL Bois’ Best Captains

The FPL Bois are back with their best captaincy picks ahead of GW35. With all 20 teams in action this week, managers have a lot of good options to pick from. The Bois’ are here to help sort through all of them and in a surprise twist, King Mo is not one of their top 3 choices. Instead, a couple of Premier League legends playing their final games for their clubs and one of the most in-form players in the league – let’s get those green arrows!

It was FPL dreamland for most managers in DGW34 as most of the popular assets delivered big hauls for their owners leading to huge jumps in rank. And now as we enter the final few Gameweeks of the season, the title is already wrapped up and only a handful of teams have something left on the table to play for. Keeping that in mind here are three candidates for this week’s captaincy who could help you in taking one step further to your best FPL season:

De Bruyne – WOL (H)

Ohh Kevin de Bruyne! The midfield maestro is fittingly the first name on the list this Gameweek as he takes on a Wolves side that ranks 15th for xGC and has conceded 27 goals in 11 games against the current top 6! City are looking to lock in their UCL spot and De Bruyne is the player who Pep would look to step up to pull the strings of their attack and make a solid impression in his final lap of the league.

Reliable is the word that comes to mind when you think of Kevin and he’s proven that to be the case once again this season as he ranks 13th for assists, 14th for xA (2nd for xA/90), and 9th for Big Chances Created despite only starting 16 games (was out due to injury for a considerable period). And now in the absence of Erling Haaland he too can play as one of the attacking outlets in a system that ranks 2nd for goals scored, 3rd for xG, and 3rd for Big Chances Created.

Kevin has enjoyed playing against Wolves and has 5 goals and 5 assists from 10 games and now could cause them more damage as City are playing with a prize on the line while Wolves have secured a mid table finish. Creativity, set piece duties, and darting runs into the box lift De Bruyne’s ceiling high making him an excellent candidate for the armband this Gameweek! If you’re one of our OGs, you already know what KDB does in the late 30’s Gameweeks 😉

Mbeumo – MUN (H)

Speaking of reliable, here’s another asset who has won everyone over this season with his all round performances, Bryan Mbeumo! After consistently ranking high in our scoring system, he finally makes his return to the shortlist this Gameweek as he takes on a vulnerable Man United side who would further be weakened on the weekend due to their priorities being to win the Europa League. United rank 13th for xGC and have kept just 2 clean sheets in their last 11 PL games!

Mbeumo has had a stellar season so far producing excellent numbers which see him rank 5th for goals scored, 12th for xG, 22nd for assists, 1st for xA, 4th for Big Chances Created, and 17th for Penalty Area Touches. He has been the heartbeat of the Brentford attack that ranks 7th for goals scored, 11th for xG, and 10th for Big Chances Created.

Mbeumo has favored the home fixtures this season and is coming in hot from another double digit haul against Brighton (his 4th at home of total 6). His overall goal threat through his finishing and linkup with the rest of the attack, penalty duties coupled with United’s defensive vulnerabilities make a strong case for Mbeumo to wear the armband for your team this Gameweek!

Vardy – SOU (H)

This is only for the football romantics who want to have one last dance at the Jamie Vardy party! The veteran takes on the weakest defence in the league in Southampton who rank 20th for xGC and have conceded the most goals in the league while keeping only two clean sheets throughout the season. They have also conceded the most penalties in the league!

This obviously is an emotion over stats decision and only for the managers who are in the mid range of their mini leagues and just want to take a punt on a legend of the game. Vardy has 7 PL goals this season which is close to a lot of other popular assets, and pairs that with 3 assists in a team that struggled to score goals for a long stretch.

In the two games this season against the promoted teams, Vardy has a goal and an assist. He has also scored 37 points in 6 games against the teams currently ranked in the bottom 5 for xGC! This could be THE chance for one final double digit haul as he looks to provide the Leicester fans with some cheer. As we said last time, strong player, weak opposition, and a bold choice to give your team the wiiings!
