West Ham Team News:

Nuno informed the media Friday that “Both [Crysencio Summerville and Konstantinos Mavropanos] are getting better, still tomorrow to assess”. That is a somewhat vague but positive update and if Summerville is fit to be a part of the squad, he will likely start given it was a short term injury. Mavropanos less likely given the form of Todibo and Kilman.

Callum Wilson started last weekend over Fullkrug who was a close fitness call, and he paid back Nuno’s faith with a brace against Bournemouth. While Fullkrug may have been the first choice in Nuno’s long term plans, and Wilson’s fitness has been an issue that strips him of the ability to string together a run of games, while fit you have to think Nuno rides the hot hand. Wilson will start against Liverpool.

Summerville (undisclosed) missed West Ham’s last game against Bournemouth, not making the matchday squad but is expected to train this week ahead of Sunday’s match against Liverpool, according to Sam Tabuteau of The Standard. Great news for Nuno and Summerville, as long as he is truly match fit, will start at LW with Guilherme moving back to the bench.

Speaking last Friday, Nuno informed the media that “They’re (Fullkrug and Mavropanos) getting better day-by-day and we still have the training session tomorrow to see, evaluate and decide [their status]”. Fullkrug then made a cameo off the bench, but with how well Wilson is performing, fresh off a brace, it is hard to see Nuno opting to switch to Fullkrug at this juncture.

Mavopanos was not fit enough to be a part of the squad last weekend against Bournemouth but as long as he is able to complete team training sessions this week without complications, he should be fit to start against Liverpool. Julio would drop to the bench with Mavropanos sliding right back in to his starting spot.

Potts was forced off in the 62nd minute of Saturday’s 3-2 win over Burnley after suffering a dead leg. He started last weekend’s draw with Bournemouth and is now a regular starter, so will be in the starting XI to face Liverpool.

Paqueta is returning from his one match suspension due to yellow card accumulation and will start in midfield alongside Potts and Fernandes, with Nuno likely shifting from a back-5 last game back to his usual 4-2-3-1.

West Ham Players to Watch:

Wilson: His form, particularly last weekend’s brace will keep him as the starting striker while he is able to stay fit.

Fullkrug: Made a cameo off the bench last weekend in his return from injury but Wilson’s form will keep him on the bench.

Paqueta: Returning from his one match suspension.

Mavropanos: Should return to the matchday squad

Magassa: Likeliest Paqueta replacement in midfield.

Liverpool Predicted Lineup:

Liverpool Predicted Lineup vs West Ham GW13

GK - Alisson
RB - Szoboszlai
CB - Gomez
CB - Van Dijk
LB - Robertson
CM - Gravenberch
CM - Jones
CM - Mac Allister
RW - Salah
LW - Gakpo
ST - Ekitike

Liverpool Team News:

Speaking on Friday slot revealed that “Alisson trained with the team – we hope and expect him to be fit.

He also informed the media that “Florian [Wirtz] will have his final rehab day [today], so could train on Saturday, if all goes well”, and so while that is a good indication that he will be a part of the squad he is unlikely to start.

Slot stated that “Hugo [Ekitike] – [yesterday] was recovery, but they [doctors] don’t expect it to be a big issue. Let’s see. Games come fast, but it shouldn’t be an issue”, so Ekitike should be fit and available to start against West Ham this Sunday.

Wirtz, Bradley and Frimpong were all confirmed as not part of Liverpool’s squad to face PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday. Slot informed the media that Bradley likely will miss out for at least the next 3 weeks, so that was to be expected as was Frimpong. While Slot did imply Wirtz would be a much shorter term injury to Bradley, clearly Wednesday is too soon and Wirtz is most likely to make the bench this weekend given the quick turnaround and Slot’s cautious approach to throwing players who have just had muscle injuries back in straight away.

Robertson will almost certainly start given his form vs Kerkez’s. He offers something Liverpool need at the minute, which is ball progression from defence, a calm head, experience and he makes Van Dijk’s life easier.

Isak started against Forest and failed to make a major impact, which is partially on the system and failings in other areas of the pitch, but even in less than ideal circumstance Ekitike has made much greater impact and offers more out of possession and as a part of a press, and Slot must opt to maximise this team right now in order to steady the ship. Ekitike should start.

Mac Allister is exacerbating many of Liverpool’s issues as he has not looked fit or sharp all season. Gravenberch Szoboszlai and Jones should be the midfield 3 but I have a feeling Slot will go with Szoboszlai at RB once again with Jones and Mac Allister in midfield. I would opt with Calvin Ramsey at RB – he had a very good game against Palace in the EFL Cup and offered excellent ball progression and passing angles from deep and played with confidence and drive – all things Liverpool desperately need right now.

Liverpool Players to Watch:

Bradley: Set to miss the next 3 weeks with muscle injury.

Robertson: Liverpool’s starting LB once again.

Jones: Will start, just depends on at RB or CM.

Wirtz: Set to miss this week with muscle injury but could return next week.

Gakpo: Will start LW with Wirtz out.

Isak: Started the last game but has failed to make a major impact, could be dropped for Ekitike.
