Nail the Double Gameweek 33 Captain. High-upside picks and essential stats to help you pick the right option and secure a massive green arrow
Now this is a seriously tough one this week. In another world Haaland would be the absolute set and forget captain for this week, and there wouldn’t be any point in even doing an article. Alas though, he is struggling for form a bit.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get stuck into the Best Gameweek 33 Captains.

Normally, whenever Arsenal is included in a double, it would take away some of the appeal. However, given they have been in poor form, and the other team is Burnley, this is a weirdly decent double. Given City are chasing Arsenal, they will likely throw caution to the wind trying to score.
Despite 3 blanks in a row, I can’t imagine Haaland staying quiet for much longer, particularly in a title race of this magnitude. A hat-trick vs Liverpool in the FA Cup will no doubt have restored some confidence so hopefully he can translate that into the league.
Perhaps the main reason he finds himself atop this list, however, is the minutes. Given City are in a title chase, it is hard to picture a world where their star striker doesn’t start both games. Wingers and Midfielders is a different story, however, with so many versatile talents such as Cherki, Semenyo, Foden, Doku, Bernado, Savinho etc. It is more likely we will see some rotation between them.

To say this man has been in incredible form would be an understatement. With 6 goals in his last 6 games in all comps, it is safe to say he loves to get forward. With his particular trademark seeming to be the late crash into the box and getting onto the end of crosses. In fact, since moving into midfield, he is averaging an xGI per 90 of 0.47.
When you combine all this with the fact he also gets clean sheet points as he’s listed as a defender, you are onto one hell of an asset. As he also plays for the 2nd best defence in the entire league. His five recent points totals: 14, 2, 6, 17, 13. Unbelievable stuff.
The only thing holding him back at the moment is a potential injury which is putting him at risk for Gameweek 33. However, he was seen sharing a joke with Pep when he came off and has been spotted in training this week, so the hope is it’s not too serious. He has been a lock in Pep’s squad since breaking through in midfield, so if he gets the all clear then we can expect him to start in both games.

We have already covered most of the City double in the two previous pieces so we will keep this one brief. Semenyo seems to have been a strong survivor of Pep roulette and as a result finds himself very nicely positioned for a DGW33 haul. There is always the risk he gets rotated but given how much of a staple he has been in Pep’s team, It is reasonable to assume he sees reasonable minutes in both matches.

There is no two ways around it. Chelsea and Spurs are quite possibly the 2 least in form teams in the league right now. Not only have Chelsea gone goalless in their last 3 league games, but they have also conceded 7. It doesn’t get much better for a Spurs team who have lost 7 of their last 8 in the league and have only scored 2 goals in their last 4 while conceding 8.
Brighton and indeed Welbeck have been the polar opposite. Winning 5 of their last 6. Welbeck has also registered 4 goals in his last 5 starts and was desperately unlucky not to add to his tally against Burnley.
There is a concern around Welbeck’s minutes, but his early substitution against Burnley shows that his minutes will be managed carefully. Brighton are also in the hunt for Europe so given they have stuff to play for and no other cup commitments, there is a strong chance their leading scorer gets meaningful minutes in both games.

What makes this a particularly attractive captaincy proposition for Bournemouth defenders is the match ups. Both Leeds and Newcastle have really been struggling to score recently and have both are battling injury/suspension crises. Particularly in the playmaking departments with Bruno Guimaraes and Anton Stach.
By contrast, the Bournemouth defence has been much improved over the last 9 games. Conceding only 6 goals in their last 9 league games. Including 4 clean sheets.
What really brings Senesi and Hill into captaincy viability, however, is their DefCon floor. Both average 11.3+ DefCons per game, with Senesi averaging 12. Both are also not invisible in the attacking department either, with Senesi averaging nearly 0.2 xGI per 90, due to his role as a deep lying playmaker. Hill also has 3 assists in his last 10 games and is great from set-pieces. Wheels up for Bournemouth defenders right now.
