The Best FPL Gameweek 32 Captains

Ahhh the humble captaincy. Feels like ages since we last discussed the armband. Also, amidst all the much more complex planning around chips and transfer usage, it feels quite refreshing to be analysing a much simpler decision for a change.

If you are on Wildcard 32 however, then make sure you check out our Best Wildcard 32 draft

And, as always, make sure you check out our Predicted Line-Ups and Team News Hub before locking in any changes.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get stuck into the best Gameweek 32 Captains.

Bruno Fernandes vs LEE (H)

If there’s one thing this man does, it’s score points. With 13, 10, 8 and 13 in his last 4 outings, to say this man is on a hot streak would be an understatement. He has 2 goals and 5 assists in his last 4 games and is showing no signs of slowing down. He now faces a Leeds side who are without a win in their last 6 and find themselves slipping into the relegation scrap.

He has also been back among the Defcons registering 9+ in each of his last 3 games. Leeds are also hit by injury, with Stach, Rodon and Gudmundsson all battling injuries. Probably the safest floor of all captaincy options this week.

Danny Welbeck vs BUR (A)

This week’s edition of whose playing Burnley takes us to Brighton, and their in-form man Danny Welbeck. With 4 goals in his last 4 starts it’s safe to say Welbeck has been ticking over nicely. His impressive Brace against Liverpool proving the difference on the day.

Welbeck has now reached 12 goals on the season, and sits 5th in the league’s top scorers. Behind only Haaland, Thiago, Semenyo and Joao Pedro. He is also operating from an xGI per 90 of 0.61, meaning his current form is more sustainable than flukey. Expect big things against a weak Burnley side.

Erling Haaland vs CHE (A)

I hope we are not mistaking Chelsea for a good defence. Chelsea only sit 12th for goals conceded and 11th for xGA. They have lost 3 of their last 4 games and conceded 7 in the process. Not to mention the fact they are without a clean sheet since Gameweek 22.

Where the prospects really start to get ugly is when you throw in their defensive injuries. With both Chalobah and James battling injuries and Enzo set to miss out due to club suspension, Chelsea’s defensive prospects get even worse. Throw in the fact Haaland is fresh off a hat trick and City look like the form team in the league right now, and suddenly this is not the tricky fixture it first appears.

Antoine Semenyo vs CHE (A)

Which is why Semenyo now finds himself next up. We will not go into too much detail around the match-up with Chelsea as we have already covered it in the Haaland segment. What we will say though is that Semenyo has as much potential to return as Haaland, and with 15 goals and 6 assists already to his name this season, we are not going to bet against him.

Dan Ballard vs TOT (H)

If you wanted a differential one, then here it is. It is no secret Spurs have been horrific down the stretch and now is as good a time as ever to face them. If there is one thing Sunderland have been able to do this year, it’s not concede. Conceding the 5th least goals in the entire league.

Ballard has been their standout performer at the back this year, registering 6 clean sheets and conceding only 28. Combine this with his elite DefCon ability and you’re onto a great asset. He averages 11.41 Defcons a game and has not registered under 9 Defensive contributions in his last 11 league games, truly safe as houses.

He is also a factor from set pieces, registering 2 goals and 2 assists already this season, off an xGI per 90 of 0.15. An xGI that is better than both Gabriel and Van Dijk. With those 3 routes to points Ballard could be a very sneaky option this week.
