Now, given we are writing this in advance of Wednesday’s games we will do our best to update this article with any news we receive in real time. Getting captaincy right is one of the most important decisions every FPL manager has to face, and it can often be the saviour and the downfall of any game week, even by itself.
With Haaland proving a little inconsistent of late, the door is wide open for multiple different captaincy options. Making captaincy dives just that bit more interesting.
Also, given how congested the fixture schedule is, keeping up with our Predicted Line-Ups hub is more important than ever. Especially before locking in any captaincy decisions.
Anyway, without further ado, let’s get stuck into the best Gameweek 22 Captains.

With 8 goals and 3 assists against Man United in just 9 games, it’s safe to say Haaland loves playing against their local rivals. Despite sitting 6th and experiencing some success going forward, Man United’s defence has been a different story, conceding the 7th most goals this season. Compound this with the fact that they have recently sacked Amorim, Mbeumo and Amad are away at AFCON and Bruno Fernandes is injured, and you have a recipe for a bloodbath.
Haaland remains a strong favourite for captaincy this week.

Back like he never left. Gabriel reminded all FPL managers of why he should be an absolute lock in every FPL team. Not only does he play for the best defence in the league, he is also a perennial threat from set-pieces. He also averages 9 Defensive Contributions per 90 so is often a decent shout to tack on those extra 2 points.
He now takes on a Forest side who have scored only 4 goals in their last 5 outings, with 2 coming against fellow strugglers West Ham. Forest sit 3rd bottom for goals scored, only 1 ahead of 19th place Burnley. Nottingham Forest have also conceded the most goals from non-penalty set-pieces in the entire league this season, making Gabriel’s potential at either end of the pitch sky high. Which is why we prefer him to Rice this week.

With Liverpool’s Head of Injury Recovery recently removing Ekitike from his FPL team, it is safe to say that we will not see Ekitike back for at least a few game weeks. Unless he’s a reactive manager. Either way, with no Isak, Salah or Ekitike, Gakpo profiles to be the focal point of the Liverpool attack against one of the worst defences in the league. With only 1 clean sheet in 13, Gakpo rounds out this week’s edition of ‘Whose Playing Burnley?’

This Villa duo’s inclusion is more of a statement about Villa than it is about Everton. We mentioned last week in our captaincy article that Villa players are captaincy candidates almost regardless of who they are playing at the moment. With wins against Arsenal, City, Chelsea, United etc, it is safe to say they Villa are able to score on anyone, anytime. Making a match up against a team who recently conceded 4 to Brentford all the more tantalising. Captaining either is fine but if we had to pick one we would give the nod to Rogers if you own both.

This week’s edition of ‘Whose Playing Wolves?’ brings us to Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle. He has been Newcastle’s stand-out FPL asset this season registering 7 goals and 4 assists at the time of writing. Like his namesake Bruno Fernandes, he has also tons of routes to points. Not only is he a DefCon beast with a penchant for crashing the box and scoring, but he is also at the heart of a lot of Newcastle’s creative build up. Combine this with his recent increased presence on Set Pieces and you’re onto a winning asset. I will be very surprised if we do not see him return against Wolves.

If you wanted a super spicy option then here it is. Rounding out this week’s captaincy candidates is non-other than Fulham’s Harry Wilson. With 9 returns in his last 9 games there should be no questioning Harry Wilson’s form. He has been Fulham’s stand-out performer so far this season and is showing no signs of slowing down. His underlying’s are great as well averaging an xGI per 90 of 0.6 in his last 5 games-at the time of writing.
Despite some decent results of late, Leeds do only have 1 clean sheet in their last 17 matches and notoriously play a much more attacking brand of football. This has seen them concede the 6th most goals in the league this season. What’s even more encouraging, is that 10 of Manchester United’s 15 shots on goal came from the right hand side (Leeds’ Left), which is exactly where Wilson likes to operate. A great differential captaincy option this week.
