A wildcard is perhaps the most powerful chip at your disposal so make sure you do ample research before locking any transfers in. That includes checking in with Predicted Line-Ups, not least due to how many players may be subjected to a rest this week following a very compact fixture schedule.
Anyway, without further ado, lets get stuck into the Best FPL Gameweek 16 Wildcard team.

No surprises to see the Spaniard still in net for the GW16 wildcard. Even though Arsenal are missing some key personnel, they still have a fantastic system that seems to churn out set pieces. Raya still leads the league for clean sheets and with Saliba’s return and Wolves, Brighton, Everton and Bournemouth in their next 5, there’s no reason the clean sheets can’t continue.
A starting keeper for £4m. Should be everyone’s 2nd keeper.

Timber’s price tag continues to swell, but it’s only because he’s such a great asset. Arsenal’s defence has proved legit all season and unlike some his teammates, Timber also offers a legit attacking threat as well, resulting in 5 attacking returns already this season. A small knock kept him out of Arsenal’s UCL fixture against Club Brugge, but he should be good to go against Wolves so we wouldn’t hesitate about putting him in a wildcard.
Even though Fulham have been struggling all season, particularly defensively, they now face Burnley, Forest and West Ham in their next 3. These fixtures are about as good as it gets for clean sheet potential, so when you combine them with his elite DefCon output, he profiles to be a fantastic FPL asset over the next few game weeks.
We’ve been banging the Nico O’Reilly drum since our Gameweek 12 differentials piece. Not only are City in flying form, but Nico is as well. Pep has lathered him with praise and following a goal at the Bernabeu he is potentially the hottest property in the defender market at the moment. Not least considering the Munoz injury.
With an xGI per 90 of 0.3 and West Ham, Forest and Sunderland in GW17, 18 and 19, there should be plenty of points on offer for City’s new starlet.
7th amongst all defenders for Defensive Contributions, Collins now takes that solid foundation into one of Brentford’s easier stretches of the season. With Leeds and Wolves in their next 2, followed by a Bournemouth side who are winless in 6, Collins is perfectly positioned between the DefCon and Clean sheet sweet spot.
Put whoever your favourite cheap defender is here. Use this spot to make up any extra cash necessary. Nathaniel Clyne could be a sneaky option at only £3.8m if you’re so inclined to gamble on his minutes with Munoz out.

With Wolves, Everton, Brighton and Bournemouth in their next 5 and with 4 returns in his last 5, Saka seems in a good spot to continue his solid form. Honestly the Wolves fixture alone is worth targeting at this point. Saka has been averaging a 0.67 xGI over his past 6 games and with those fixtures there’s no reason these chances should dry up.
Speaking of good form, our next inclusion is non other than Fulham’s Harry Wilson. Double or even tripling up on Fulham is not a bad idea considering their next 3. With 4 returns in his last 3, against Palace, City and Spurs, Wilson now has the chance to take that solid form into 3 of the leagues worst 4 defences. Potential fireworks inbound. Not bad for a player with only 3% ownership.
Another man who can’t be stopped right now. Foden has 6 returns in his last 3 games and has West Ham, Forest and Sunderland as 3 of his next 4. He is definitely due a rest soon which is why we have made sure to have solid bench cover. But in the meantime, it is definitely all aboard the Foden train.
Fresh off his most productive outing of the season, Bruno Fernandes rounds out our final starting midfield spot. Now granted they will not be playing Wolves every week, but the man just has so many routes to points that it almost doesn’t matter who he is playing against. Now FPL’s highest scoring midfielder, and that’s with 2 penalties missed. Averaging an xGI per 90 of 0.7 and DefCons per 90 of 10.6. An absolute FPL stud.
Like Wilson, Dewsbury-Hall offer cracking value for such a cheap price tag. He has 5 returns in his last 5 and has been pivotal in Everton winning 4 of their last 5. He also rotates very nicely with Wilson, facing Burnley, Forest, Brentford and Wolves from GW18 onwards, just when Wilson’s start to decline.

Despite some trickier outing in his last 2, expect Thiago to get right back to scoring ways in these upcoming game weeks. The Premier League’s 2nd highest scorer now take son Leeds, Wolves and a Bournemouth side who have conceded 13 in their last 6. Both Leeds and Bournemouth are also home fixtures, where he is even more prolific. Scoring 5 in his last 3 games at the Gtech.
We won’t go into detail about why this man should be in your teams. Fresh off a win at the Bernabeu and with great fixtures in their next 5, there is no reason to not own him.
Jimenez seems to have locked down a starting spot for Fulham for the foreseeable future and what a time to do it. With 4 returns in his last 7 and Burnley, Forest and West Ham in their next, Jimenez could easily find himself amongst the goals in the upcoming game weeks.

Again, with the risks of potential rests being ever-present, the need for a slightly deeper bench than normal is paramount. It’s no secret that Arsenal, City, Fulham and Brentford are the teams to target for the upcoming stretch and so we’ve managed to get as much cover as possible.
There are plenty of potential variations to this team, i.e. combing a KDH and Wilson into a £4.5 and more expensive mid, or even leaning towards a 5 at the back and upgrading Mukiele.
What this set up allows however, is the opportunity to be flexible, given just how deep the bench is. Which could be even more useful for those who have yet to play their bench boost.
