Pep on Friday speaking on Rodri revealed “Not yet – he’s not far. Hamstring”, which is a short and sweet way of saying hamstrings are tricky, he is 18 months out from an ACL tear and he will be managed carefully. Expect a GW15 return for Rodri.

Pep on Friday speaking on Rodri revealed “Not yet – he’s not far. Hamstring”, which is a short and sweet way of saying hamstrings are tricky, he is 18 months out from an ACL tear and he will be managed carefully. Expect a GW15 return for Rodri.
The entire starting back 5, as well as Foden, Doku, Cherki, Silva and Haaland were all rested in the 0-2 loss to Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday. That’s 3 losses in their last 4 games in all competitions for Pep and City and he will absolutely pick his strongest XI for Leeds to get them back to winning ways. That would mean all 10 of the aforementioned players will re enter the starting lineup while Trafford, Khusanov, Stones, Ake, Ait-Nouri, Reijnders, Bobb, Lewis, Marmoush and Savio all drop back to the bench after a disappointing performance.
Speaking on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League game against Bayer Leverkusen Pep revealed “(Rodri) Not long. Not sure but not long. In the process and timing on when he will be back. We will wait a little more to make sure he is fine”. It sounds like this weekend will be too soon for Rodri but next weekend he should be able to make his return. Whether that will be a start or off the bench we will have to wait to see next week with training reports.
Khusanov was an unused sub against Newcastle and made his full return from a lengthy layoff against Leverkusen. He started and was one of the few players that played well. He has looked a different player this season when fit and could absolutely take the starting RB job or rotate fairly frequently with Dias and Gvardiol as that third choice CB.
Kovacic is set to undergo heel surgery in the coming days and will be sidelined until February.
Reijnders has not started the last 3 league games. Pep’s preference at this minute is to start Silva alongside a true 6.
Cherki has been excellent of late, creating moments of magic and chances for Haaland and notching 2 assists vs Bournemouth. However his tendency to walk out of possession along with his lack of pace and power might mean he is sacrificed against Newcastle for Savinho or Marmoush. Savinho is the most likely.
Rodri: Will not be fit to start but could make the bench for this weekend. Likely makes full return next weekend.
Khusanov: Started in his return against Leverkusen and played fairly well. Certainly a factor for the starting XI down the road.
Cherki: Has earned his starting spot and has been getting picked consistently by Pep.
Gonzalez: Will continue to start as the 6 while Rodri is out.
Marmoush: Failed to make a big impact in the start against Leverkusen.
Ait-Nouri: Subbed off in first start and failed to make the kind of impact that would have O’Reilly benched.
Reijnders: Out of favour and has not started City’s last 3 Premier League games.

Daniel Farke revealed on Friday that “Anton Stach will definitely miss the Man City game due to his following of the concussion protocol. If everything works in our favour, he’ll be allowed to return to team training on Sunday.
In other midfield troubles Farke also revealed surprising news that “Sadly, Sean Longstaff will miss the game, he is out with a calf injury. He suffered this during the last game. It’s not good news, he’s expected to be out four-to-six weeks, so we will miss him for a while”. Terrible news to lose two midfielders in the same week.
Stach was forced off in the 23rd minute of Sunday’s match against Leeds United due to an apparent head injury. Stach would have to leave the field after a massive header contributed to the opening goal of the match, as he would land on his head and neck after the header, needing medical attention before he was eventually taken off the pitch 25 minutes later. Tanaka will replace Stach in the starting lineup.
Willie Gnonto (groin) missed out on Leeds’ last game against Nottingham Forest but the international break may have provided the recovery time needed as he was not far away, and he is in contention to make the matchday squad for Villa.
DCL vs Nmecha for who starts up front for Leeds is hard to call. Calvert-Lewin started in the GW10 loss to Brighton, then Nmecha started in the GW11 loss to Forest but did score and that is why I lean Nmecha to start.
Stach: Head and potential neck injury likely to keep him sidelined for at least this weekend’s game against City.
Longstaff: Out 4-6 weeks with a calf injury.
Gruev: Will be forced to start in midfield
Tanaka: Will start in midfield.
Gnonto: Returned to the matchday squad and made a cameo off the bench.
Nmecha: Started and scored in Leeds’ last 2 league games. Will continue to be the starting striker.
Calvert-Lewin: Started against Brighton in GW10 but was dropped a week later and Nmecha started last week also.
