On general team news, Guardiola revealed Friday in his press conference that “We’ll train this afternoon but it looks good. Everybody finished [against Monaco] without a problem. Yeah, fine”. Nothing major to report on the injury front.
Our GW8 Manchester City vs Everton predicted lineups, preview, team overviews, H2H record, betting odds and predicted score.
The Jack Grealish derby (he can’t actually play in this game) – winner gets full custody next season. In all seriousness this should be a great game, with both teams coming of big wins heading in to the international break. Manchester City are undefeated in their last 4 league games, winning 3 against Manchester United, Burnley and Brentford and drawing with Arsenal. You could argue the wins have come against poor opposition but the ruthlessness they dispatched those teams with was not something City did routinely last season. They are still clearly an improved team now sit 5th in the league after a shaky start to the season, only 3 points behind Arsenal. With Haaland playing the best football of his career and looking as complete a player as he ever has, as well as Marmoush and Ait-Nouri returning, they look in good shape. Everton are riding high after ending Crystal Palace’s 19 game unbeaten run in all competitions while maintaining their own undefeated streak on their new home ground the Hill Dickinson stadium. Everton are becoming a difficult out for just about anyone in the league with a much improved attack this season with Grealish and Ndiaye simply being one of the better wing duo’s in the league. Their form away from home has been less impressive with their 2 losses of course being in away games. It is a good chance for Manchester City to show they might be serious title contenders by handling business against a good team while it is a chance for Everton to show they aren’t one team playing in Liverpool and a clearly worse version outside of it, and really build the foundation for their best season in over a decade.

Fixture: Manchester City vs Everton
Stadium: Etihad Stadium
Date: Saturday 18th October
Kick-off: 3:00pm BST
Manchester City have dominated this head-to-head during the Pep era. Everton’s last Premier League win over City took place all the way back in 2017. Over their last 5 league meetings City have won 4 and then there was the 1-1 draw at the Etihad last season which was right in the middle of City’s horrendous patch of form. City have scored 11 goals to Everton’s 2 across the last 5 games between these two sides, it truly has been a mismatch and an almost guaranteed 3 points for Pep’s side.

Rodri is expected to be sidelined with a hamstring injury for 2-3 weeks. Pep Guardiola stated “It’s muscular. Of course I don’t want to lose him [at all] because he is such an important player. We tried to take care of him, but it is what it is. This is why we tried to be gentle and play [him] for 60-65 minutes”. Nico Gonzalez should be the direct replacement for Rodri.
Marmoush could return to the squad this weekend vs Everton. Guardiola revealed “Hopefully after Brentford we will have many players back – hopefully Omar [Marmoush] will be back”. He would likely feature off the bench after having been out so long.
On general team news, Guardiola revealed Friday in his press conference that “We’ll train this afternoon but it looks good. Everybody finished [against Monaco] without a problem. Yeah, fine”. Nothing major to report on the injury front.
Against lesser teams, 2 of Savinho, Doku or Marmoush should and likely will start on the wings. When they are facing better teams, Bernardo may come in to play on the wing.
Guardiola also informed the media Friday that “Rayan Ait-Nouri and Rayan Cherki, no. Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov, no. Mateo Kovacic, maybe”. Marmoush could be back for this game against Brentford based on the original timeline, but would make the bench at most after a month out. Ait-Nouri’s earliest return based on the original timeline of 5 weeks would mean a potential GW8 return.
Khusanov is set to be out 3 weeks after he suffered a foot injury against Arsenal. Guardiola informed the media quite plainly “He will be out for the next three games, I think”. Tough blow for City, the young defender was playing well.
Rayan Cherki has a quadriceps tear and has been ruled out for around 2 months. A big blow to City especially after a slow start to the season and back-to-back losses.
Rodri: Out 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury.
Khusanov: Out for the next game at least.
Ait-Nouri: Out 1/2 more weeks (ankle).
Savinho: Started last 2 league games.
Stones: Back from injury. Will start either Monaco or Brentford in Dias’ place to allow the captain some rest.
Marmoush: Could return against Everton.
Grealish is loan locked for this game as Manchester City are of course his parent club.
Moyes had few updates in his Friday press conference. He did however have updates on Branthwaite and new signing Merlin Rohl, stating “Both the same – no change, neither of them fit for the game but they’re both making progress and, with a little bit of luck, we’ll start to get them on the grass. We’ve not got them on the grass yet in training, so that’s where we’re at”. Branthwaite clearly still weeks away but the international break likely comes at a good time, meaning he might only miss 2/3 more actual league games.
Dibling started in Dewsbury-Hall’s place against Crystal Palace, and with a big win over a team that was undefeated in their last 19 games, it would stand to reason that Dibling keeps his place with Grealish not allowed to play in this game, rather than Alcaraz coming in to start.
Barry started the last game. It is hard to say if the starting job is his now but after a big win it is safe to assume Moyes will pick those same starters for the most part.
Grealish: Loan locked.
Barry: Started over Beto in the 2-1 win vs Crystal Palace.
Keane: Came off against Palace with a rib injury.
Beto: Was benched last game and Everton won. H
Branthwaite: Not yet returned to team training.
Dewsbury-Hall: Returns from suspension
Alcaraz: Will replace Dewsbury-Hall in the starting lineup.
