Gameweek 6 – FPL Bois Best Captains

After another low-scoring Gameweek with the average points at 42, we’re now geared up for the next week which has some really juicy fixtures for in-form players. So here are three candidates who could help you catapult your way up the ranks this Gameweek:

Haaland – BUR (H)

This one is the FPL managers’ delight! After scoring against one of the best defences in the league, Erling now is up against a Burnley defence that ranks 20th for xGC after the first five games, conceding 7 goals in 3 games against the traditional top 6 teams. Haaland is brimming with confidence with 10 goals in his last 5 appearances despite facing the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Napoli in this period.

Erling has got off to a flying start this season and after five games in the PL and is dominating the stats department as he ranks 1st for goals scored (mind the gap!), 1st for xG (mind the gap!), 1st for nPxG (yup, again!), 9th for Big Chances Created and 3rd for Penalty Area Touches!Despite a slow start to the season for City he has been carrying the attack on his back which sees them rank 5th for goals scored, 2nd for xG, and 2nd for Big Chances Created. And now a fixture like this is what Pep and his men would be looking at to display their brutal strength and put on an attacking masterclass.

Haaland has faced Burnley three times and has scored five goals clearing any lingering doubts on how he fares against weak defences. This game also provides a great opportunity to use the Triple Captain chip for the first half of the season as Haaland is capable of netting a MONSTER haul with his clinical finishing, being the recipient of several quality chances, and adding his penalty kick duties.

Mbeumo – BRE (A)

One good win for United and the Bois are on the bandwagon already! Mbeumo has been looking as the brightest light in the United track since he joined the red side of Manchester this season, and makes his first entry to the shortlist this season as he prepares to take on his former team, Brentford, who have been looking very weak defensively conceding 10 goals in 5 games while ranking 13th for xGC despite playing relatively weaker attacks.

Mbeumo’s underlying stats have been looking really good as he ranks 11th for xG, 8th for nPxG, 2nd for xA, and 3rd for Penalty Area Touches which gives us the belief that the output from these would start showing soon, and the fixture against Brentford could just be the opportunity to do so! To get an idea of how well he can perform, let’s take a look at his stats from last season where he ranked 5th for goals scored, 11th for xG, 31st for nPxG, 16th for assists, 1st for xA, 4th for Big Chances Created, and 10th for Penalty Area Touches!

The United attack has also been looking promising and rank 6th for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 4th for Big Chances Created. Mbeumo has been elevating the team’s attack and making runs to get into threatening positions which could see him have a field day against Brentford, and coupling that with his set piece duties make him an excellent contender for the armband this Gameweek.

Differential Captaincy Pick:

Richarlison – WOL (H)

A World Cup year just wakes up a different beast inside of him and we’re already starting to see some signs which mark the debut for Richarlison on the shortlist as he takes on a Wolves defence that has been very vulnerable this season and is ranked 17th for xGC and 19th for goals conceded (12 in 5 games). Richarlison on the other hand has been quite impressive leading the line for Spurs and becoming Thomas Frank’s starting striker.

After the first five games, the Brazilian ranks 2nd for goals scored, 15th for xG, 10th for nPxG, and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches leading the Spurs attack which ranks 2nd for goals scored, 10th for xG, and 12th for Big Chances Created. The fixture against Wolves comes as a great opportunity for Frank’s men to up these numbers and play to their attacking strengths. This could see Richarlison have a high ceiling this gameweek making him an excellent differential choice.

Wolves is the team against whom Richarlison has scored the most goals against (6 in 12), and now as a nailed on player he would have more time on the pitch to repeat his exploits and the Spurs creative players feeding him quality chances would further enhance his potential to find the back of the net. This again is a brave choice but definitely one that has its merits and could take you to some big leaps.
