Green Light: Confident the player will start.
Amber Light: A toss up on whether the player will start.
Red Light: Confident the player will not start.
Aston Villa vs Spurs (Friday 7:45pm kick-off):
Games started:
Martinez: 35/36
Cash: 22/36
Konsa: 31/36
Pau: 21/36
Maatsen: 8/36
Kamara: 18/36
Onana: 18/36
Asensio: 7/36
Rogers: 34/36
McGinn: 25/36
Watkins: 29/36
Villa have a singular focus and that is to get Champions League football next season. They will go with their strongest XI.
Maatsen starts over Digne. He has started 4 of the last 6 and against a likely weakened Spurs XI, the youngster gets the nod.
The rest of the team essentially picks itself with Tielemans and Rashford injured and Ramsey suspended after his red card last GW.
Maatsen could start on the wing instead of McGinn but I’d expect Villa’s captain to get the nod and Malen is a great option off the bench if Villa need a goal.
Spurs will likely go with a heavily rotated lineup for this game, as they have been for league games for weeks, prioritising the Europa League. With the Europa League final coming 5 days after this game, his key players likely won’t be risked.
That means Porro, Udogie, Romero, Van De Ven, Son, Johnson and Solanke will be rested.
This is essentially the team Ange has been picking for weeks in the league, especially once Maddison and Bergvall were lost for the season.
Jackson’s suspension after his red card against Newcastle will lead to multiple position changes from recent weeks.
Neto will move to striker, which is where he played when Jackson was injured. Palmer will shift to the RW. Enzo moves into the 10 role and Caicedo comes back into midfield to play alongside Lavia.
Reece James starts at RB with Caicedo shifting back into midfield.
Whether Onana gets rested again is a toss up. It’s possible Amorim does not want him to go weeks without playing before he starts in the Europa League Final.
Amad likely starts at RWB again.
I think Maguire is rested for the EL Final on Wednesday. Yoro and De Ligt are out.
Ugarte and Fernandes are surely rested. Hard to see them being risked. Casemiro and Eriksen would play in the deeper midfield roles if they are dropped.
Hojlund as the clubs only real recognised, top level striker will surely be rested for Spurs on Wednesday.
Patterson avoided a serious concussion and comes straight back into the starting lineup, replacing Young.
McNeil was likely rested last week as to not overwork him coming off a lengthy period out injured, but it is very clear he is Everton’s best winger. He will start over Harrison.
Ndiaye and McNeil replaced Alcaraz and Harrison last week off the bench and Everton scored their opener minutes later. Safe to assume both will start ahead of their competition.
No changes to Potter’s starting lineup from GW36. Coufal and Cresswell are set to leave the club at the end of the season and might be being favoured over Mavropanos and Emerson simply due to that, with West Ham not playing for anything.
Paqueta is dealing with a lot of news around his potential looming suspension and his future. Unlikely he’s in the mental space to start.
Fullkrug could come back into the starting lineup if there was a formation change but it never seemed like Potter truly favoured him and sees him as a locked in starter when fit.
Murillo had a chance to be fit for GW36’s game against Leicester but was not quite ready. While there has been no update, the hope is that he will be fit enough to start in GW37 and of course, if he is cleared to play he will start.
This is Forest’s strongest lineup with Hudson-Odoi injured.
Players to watch:
Murillo:
Brentford vs Fulham (Sunday 3pm kick-off):
Flekken: 34/36
Kayode: 4/36
Collins: 36/36
Van Den Berg: 27/36
Lewis-Potter: 34/36
Norgaard: 32/36
Yarmoliuk: 13/36
Damsgaard: 32/36
Mbeumo: 36/36
Schade: 24/36
Wissa: 32/36
Like every week for the last month, this is the XI Thomas Frank will opt to go with. Kayode has ousted Ajer and Van Den Berg ousted Pinnock. Everyone other player outside of Yarmoliuk who has been playing in stead of the injured Jensen, has essentially been a starter all season long.
Lukic and Robinson have returned to training but only in the last 24 hours. It would seem likely both are only fit enough to make the bench given these have been multi-week injuries.
Sessegnon starts at LB.
Pereira moves deeper to play alongside Berge with Smith-Rowe in the 10 role.
Wilson starts at RW over Willian or Adama. Before his injury Wilson had a crazy purple patch where he was winning games off the bench and scoring late winning goals in consecutive weeks, and is the clear best option Silva has at RW given the current injuries.
No changes for Ruud Van Nistelrooy. This lineup managed a 2-2 against a Forest team desperate for a win last week and given it’s Vardy’s last game for the club, everyone in the stadium will be desperate for Vardy to contribute to a win in his final game.
With Arsenal only playing to confirm Champions League football next season, while it’s not a must win, they will want to finish 2nd as City or Newcastle pipping them to 2nd spot would be embarrassing.
Timber comes in for Ben White.
Merino is suspended after his red card against Liverpool last weekend so Trossard will start up-front.
Trippier will miss this game as he did last weekends. Howe spoke on the his veteran fullback revealing “Kieran I don’t think will be fit for this weekend but again it’s not a big injury, a very minor calf problem”.
Botman and Willock have more of a chance to suit up but it still seems like even making the bench for both of them would be a positive. Seems very unlikely either start. Howe on Willock said “Joe – we’ll leave the door open for him, I think he’s got a slight chance”. On Botman, Howe said “It was a knock, he got a bang on his knee. We’re not sure about Sven’s availability for the weekend but we’ll give him a chance to be fit.” Given he’s coming off an ACL and this isn’t his first injury since he returned, Howe will likely opt to be cautious.
Newcastle could either stick with the back 5 they went with in GW36 with Emil Krafth coming in for Botman, or go with the 4-3-3 Howe has preferred for the large majority of this season with Miley or Longstaff starting in midfield.
Given I think Miley and Longstaff are both much better players thatn Krafth, and 4-3-3 has been what Howe has preferred, I’ll lean that way with Murphy starting at RB.
Players to watch:
Miley:
Trippier:
Botman:
Willock:
Brighton vs Liverpool (Monday 8pm kick-off):
Games started:
Verbruggen: 34/36
Wieffer: 8/36
Van Hecke: 31/36
Dunk: 24/36
Estupinan: 25/36
Baleba: 29/36
Hinshelwood: 21/36
O’Riley: 11/36
Minteh: 18/36
Mitoma: 28/36
Joao Pedro: 23/36
Dunk is fit and will start according to Hurzeler.
Wieffer has been starting at RB even since Veltman has returned from injury. No reason why that won’t continue.
Hinshelwood vs Ayari in midfield has been hard to predict but Hinshelwood has featured more often.
Speaking on Mitoma, Hurzeler said “Kaoru had some minor issues, so hopefully he will be a possibility for us in the squad.”
Joao Pedro returns from his 3 game suspension.
Wieffer:
Dunk:
Hinshelwood:
Mitoma:
Joao Pedro:
Veltman:
Welbeck:
Games started:
Alisson: 26/36
Bradley: 5/36
Konate: 27/36
Van Dijk: 36/36
Robertson: 28/36
Gravenberch: 35/36
Mac Allister: 30/36
Jones: 18/36
Salah: 36/36
Gakpo: 21/36
Jota: 14/36
Difficult to predict Slot’s lineup for this game given it’s not at Anfield, and he certainly is tinkering with some tacitcal ideas for next season. However I think after a loss and a draw, Slot will go strong and look to finish the season strong on 89 points.
Mac Allister was rested last week so he returns to the starting lineup this week. I think it is likely one of the midfield 3 is given a rest, and that’s likely Szobszlai. Jones comes in to play the 10 role in his place.
Diaz could certainly start up-front again but after a criminal miss of an early chance against Arsenal, and for rotation and rest purposes also, Jota could start.
Palace will either be coming off a seminal moment celebrating their first major trophy in the clubs history or despondent from losing the Final. Whichever way that may go, I think either ultimately leads to a heavily rotated XI on Tuesday.
Clyne and Chilwell replace Munoz and Mitchell. I think the 3 centre backs can and will maybe have to go again.
Lerma and Hughes start as I’m expecting Wharton and Kamada to start the FA Cup Final.
City, like Palace will either be coming off celebrating an FA Cup Final win or ruing the loss. A more experienced City side who have already won the FA Cup are less likely to celebrate the victory in a manner that would rule most starters out of Tuesday’s league game (by getting absolutely hammered). And if they lose, they’ve lost bigger games before. So while I expect some rotation, I expect less rotation from Pep given they still need points to confirm Champions League football next season.
I am expecting Nunes, Dias, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne and Haaland to all start the FA Cup Final, and then to be rested on Tuesday given those players either have very capable deputies or their minutes need to be managed coming off recent injuries.
Gvardiol, Marmoush and potentially Kovacic are the players I think may start the Final and then go again Tuesday.
This gives the perfect opportunity to bed in Nico Gonzalez further in an important game, and give Foden minutes.
