FPL Goat’s Fixture Ticker: Gameweek 5

GW4 has been a week for clean sheets and cheaper defenders mainly CBs with defcon potential

8 teams out of the 16 kept a clean sheet on the first day of GW4 with 30 players hitting DEFCON points that’s the most out of any in a particular GW.

1. Bournemouth:

They look like a well rounded team both in attack and defence as well no matter the opponent. They are 4th in the league for big chances created and 4th best for least xG conceded.

🥇 Semenyo: Easily the best midfielder to get at any price point, he is only behind Haaland as the top scorer in the league and only behind Grealish and Joao Pedro for Assists. He has accumulated 2.90 xG this season which is 2nd only to Haaland and as a result has risen 5 times in price already. Fixtures are decent for both their attacking and defensive assets.

🥈 Senesi: Only 4 teams have kept more clean sheets than Bournemouth this season. Senesi and Tarkowski are the only players in the league to achieve defcon points in all 4 GWs this season and he also has an assist, a DEFCON monster means he has also takes up 4 bps already. Currently the best £5m and under Defender to buy.

2. Crystal Palace:

One of the very best teams in given how they have started in the league this season. A clean sheet vs Chelsea in GW1, kept forest to just 1 shot on target in GW2 and a clean sheet vs a blunt villa in GW3 and a solid clean sheet vs Sunderland. It’s clearly visible that the defence is the one to target over everyone else, palace restricted Sunderland to only 6 shots the entire game and 0 shots on target.

🥇 Munoz: Plays a West Ham team who are bottom half for attacking numbers and who have failed to score in 2 out of 4 games this season. He has a decent 1.21 xGI this season with an assist already, he hit DEFCON points once vs villa and was very close to hitting them vs Chelsea in GW1. He is the best defender to buy at the moment.

🥈 Mateta: It’s a shame he would be top on the bucket list of strikers but with Sarr a big doubt potentially till GW5-6. The attack looks a bit blunt with so many absentees but with Wharton potential returning vs West ham and Pino already impressing in the attack. Looking at fixtures in isolation Mateta is still a very good buy this GW.

🥉 Richards/Lacroix/Geuhi: The best part about the palace defence is there are options in all the price brackets and you can pick according to your team structure and budget. A double up on one of the best defences in the league could be a big differential going forward as we already saw the results in GW4. Guehi would be my pick if you want to go cheap with some defcon and attacking potential, he came close to hitting defcon twice this season. Lacroix a CB with decent corners and set piece threat and a defcon beast he hit 16, 12, and 9 defcon this season and if you are ready to spend £0.4m more than he is the way to go.

This would be my order of preference:

1. Munoz
2. Lacroix
3. Guehi
4. Richards

3. Liverpool:

The best team of last season but they haven’t got going particularly this season with injuries to Bradley, Frimpong a lot of players leaving arriving. It’s a matter of time till they get going, when everyone is looking to sell the likes of Salah I would rather advice to keep all your Liverpool players because the fixtures are not as bad as they are made to look. They are still top for goals scored alongside Chelsea and Arsenal and 3rd only behind Arsenal and Newcastle for xG conceded.

🥇 Salah: It’s crazy I’m recommending him despite his abysmal form and stays so far if it wasn’t for the injury time penalties this would easily be his worst start to a season in the Liverpool shirt. Regardless I am still a big on him turning it around very soon, with the Isak transfer sealed it will be a big boost to their attack.

I do believe the goals would be shared but i expect Salah to be on the receiving end and his assist potential will go further up. Keep in mind his bad form has also to do with Wirtz not looking good at all and the overall attack in general. With UCL starting i expect them to sharpen up in attacking and come out all guns blazing.

🥈 VVD: Liverpool 3rd best for xG conceded so you got to own a defender and vvd is the safest of the lot. He hit Defcon in the first 2GWs and was close to hit vs arsenal in GW3 which further increases his bonus points chances and he has 4 bps this season 2 each in GW3-4

NOTE: Now I would look to leave that 3rd Liverpool spot open and wait for Isak to get in that team and start getting minutes rather than just committing on Gakpo or Wirtz. You should leave that spot open too in case Salah continues to disappoint and you want to free up funds just to get Gakpo in for him and get Isak up front as your marquee Liverpool attacker.

4. Nottingham Forest:

It’s very tricky with forest at the moment, they do have two of the best fixtures of any team in GW5-6 with them playing both promoted teams. With the change in managers we’ll see a big transition going from a defence first Nuno to a more offensive Ange. There will also be a bit shift in attack and we may see potentially reduced minutes for Chris wood as we already saw him getting subbed before 60 vs Arsenal. With EFL cup midweek and the Europa league every other midweek it’s going to be hard judging minutes of forest attackers especially.

Note: Its tricky to suggest a player to transfer in at the moment but with those fixtures the forest players are in a category of don’t buy don’t sell. Keep the players for the next 2GWs and then they are a sell immediately from GW7 onwards.

5. Tottenham:

They have started the season amazingly well under Thomas Frank, almost seamless with the new boss and a plethora of new signings. 3 wins in the first 4GWs and all of them very comprehensive with them scoring 3 each vs BUR and WHU and beating Man City convincingly

🥇 Porro: He is still the best Spurs player and defender to own for the upcoming fixtures. Overshadowed by attacking returns from Romero and Van de Ven, though Porro’s DEFCON potential is very limited he is still up there in terms of xA being 3rd among Defenders and top 5 for shots taken by Defenders.

He now plays BHA, WOL, LEE, AVL who are all bottom 5 for goals scored so far this season, a clean sheet looks very likely.

🥈 Xavi Simons: I rate him pretty highly already in terms of his versatility, he can play at the left wing and also as an attacking midfielder. He had a decent debut vs west ham, created a decent chances but looked a bit rusty to start with. Going forward I expect him to be playing more centrally into that Maddison role and will be very close to goal.

🥉 Van de Ven: Easily the best Spurs attacker if you are looking for clean sheets and defcon with the added attacking threat. He is top 5 for shots inside the box and 4th for xG among Defenders, he also hit Defcon points in 3 of the 4 GWs. I wouldn’t pay the £0.4m extra for Romero.
