Gameweek 6 – Brad Mayor’s FPL Buy, Sell or Hold

Gameweek 5 saw another points-filled weekend with players like Gravenberch, Stach, and Calvert-Lewin scoring big. We’ll look at the most pressing dilemmas ahead of Gameweek 6. Who to buy, who to sell, and who to hold.

Florian Wirtz

Those who held Florian Wirtz through an excruciatingly tough first 4 Gameweeks were holding out hope that he could produce something in the Merseyside derby. Once again, they were disappointed as the German international didn’t start the game. He did come on but didn’t manage to pick up a goal involvement and therefore blanked for the fifth game in a row. Not only do Liverpool’s fixtures turn from Gameweek 6, but Wirtz is now a minutes risk so I would sell him this week if you can.

Conclusion: Sell

Phil Foden

Phil Foden started the season with a small injury but is now back fit and has started Man City’s last three games against Man United, Napoli, and Arsenal. He’s picked up a goal and an assist, and his minutes have been encouraging too. He played 90 minutes against both Man United and Napoli, then came off after 68 minutes against Arsenal. I don’t think this is anything to worry about, as playing 90 minutes in three games in a row straight after returning from injury would have been a risk. It’s good to see that Pep trusts the English midfielder to start in these important games so I think he’s a great option to buy this week.

Conclusion: Buy

Ollie Watkins

Once again, Ollie Watkins is a huge topic of conversation after blanking for the fifth consecutive game against Sunderland at the weekend. Aston Villa did manage to score their first Premier League goal of the season in Gameweek 5, but Watkins wasn’t involved. It was slightly worrying that a 10-man Sunderland team were outplaying an 11-man Villa team. Despite a Burnley at home fixture in Gameweek 7, I think it’s time to sell Ollie Watkins as Villa also have two Europa League games in the next two weeks, so we may even see some rotation or earlier subs.

Conclusion: Sell

Pedro Porro

Pedro Porro has been transferred out by over 100,000 FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 6. Spurs have kept 3 clean sheets from 5 games and have Wolves at home up next. Therefore, it’s somewhat surprising that so many are selling the Spaniard this week. However, it is likely because he’s been outscored by Romero and Van de Ven, who are both cheaper than him. Despite this, I still wouldn’t sell him before the upcoming fixtures, and I don’t think it’s worth using a transfer to replace him with a cheaper teammate.

Conclusion: Hold

Nordi Mukiele

Sunderland’s new signing has started all 3 games from Gameweek 3 onwards, and has averaged a whopping 14 defensive contributions in these. That’s 4 over the threshold of 10, and means that he has collected the extra 2 points in all 3 of these games. The Sunderland defence has looked pretty impressive for the most part as they have kept 2 clean sheets this season. Not only does Mukiele’s dominance in the air enable him to generate a huge amount of clearances, but it also makes him a threat from set pieces, which his Gameweek 6 opponents, Nottingham Forest, have struggled to defend against so far this season. £4.0m for a defender with a high defensive contribution floor, that also has goal threat from corners and assist threat from his own long throw-ins seems a bargain to me.

Conclusion: Buy
