Brad Mayor brings you his most pressing buy, sell or hold players in FPL ahead of Gameweek 4!
The international is almost over, and that means we need to assess the state of our FPL teams. We’ll look at the most pressing dilemmas ahead of Gameweek 4. Who to buy, who to sell, and who to hold?
The first player we’re going to look at is Ollie Watkins. Aston Villa have started the season very poorly as they haven’t managed to score in their first 3 games. They have had a couple of difficult fixtures in Newcastle and Crystal Palace, but Villa would have expected a result against a slightly depleted Brentford team in GW2.
However, I still believe that Watkins is a hold due to Villa’s nice run of fixtures. They play Everton and Burnley in their next 4, who have statistically been the two worst defences in the league so far this season. They also play Sunderland during this run, so I would hold off on selling Watkins until these favourable fixtures are done.
Conclusion: Hold
Jack Grealish is by far the most transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 4, with close to a million FPL managers bringing in the Englishman. This is for good reason, as he has recorded 4 assists in his last 2 games. As mentioned earlier, Everton have been one of the two worst defences in the league so far this season. However, this hasn’t impacted their attack as they’ve scored 5 goals in their last two matches.
The fixtures are a mixed bag as they face Aston Villa and West Ham at home in the next 3, but also face Liverpool and Man City away too. I would still be looking to buy Jack Grealish, as you can bench him for those tough fixtures.
Conclusion: Buy
Nottingham Forest have been disappointing so far this season after an impressive campaign last year. They kept 13 clean sheets last season, which was just one off the league leaders in Liverpool with 14. However, this season, they’re yet to keep a clean sheet despite some favourable home fixtures in their first 3. Even though this week’s fixture is tough for Forest with Arsenal away, I would still hold Murillo as it’s Burnley and Sunderland after that.
Conclusion: Hold
Deadline day saw the Alexander Isak to Liverpool deal finally happen, and given how impressive Gakpo and Ekitike have been so far this season, we’re left wondering who drops out for Isak. Despite Wirtz having a slow start to the season, it seems unlikely that he’ll be the one to drop out given his position. Salah will be starting regardless, which leaves Gakpo and Ekitike.
We can’t be sure which one will make way in the starting lineup for Isak, but we can be relatively certain that we don’t need to worry about that this week. The Swedish striker has only played 19 minutes of football since May, so it’s very unlikely that he starts in Gameweek 4. Therefore, Ekitike is fine to hold this week.
Conclusion: Hold
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been a minutes machine this season as he’s started 6 games in the last 3 weeks and has played 85 minutes or more in every single one of them. He has now had a rest over the international break though, as he wasn’t called up for the French national team. Palace face Sunderland and West Ham next in the league, and after grabbing a goal against Aston Villa in GW3, I’d back Mateta to continue his goalscoring form.
Conclusion: Buy
