Big Man Bakar brings you his best Gameweek 4 Wildcard team. If you are considering using your Wildcard chip after a rough opening 2 GWs, then this is a must read for you!
Gameweek 4 arrives at an interesting juncture in the Fantasy Premier League season. Many managers are weighing up the Wildcard chip, whether to recover from a slow start or to take advantage of early price changes during the international break. A well-structured Wildcard squad not only solves immediate issues but also sets you up strongly for the medium term. Below is a carefully balanced team that I would recommend for those hitting the button this week:
Arsenal’s defensive strength and consistent clean sheet potential make Raya the ideal “set and forget” option. At home to Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 4, the odds of a shutout look strong.
The standout £4.0m backup. He is the only nailed starter at this price and opens the door for upgrades elsewhere. His fixtures against Forest and Burnley in Gameweeks 5 and 8 even offer viable Bench Boost opportunities.
Liverpool’s most reliable defensive pick. Ahead of fixtures against Burnley and Everton, he offers not only clean sheet potential but also attacking threat from set pieces.
A defensive contributions machine, with a run of appealing fixtures for Crystal Palace that makes him excellent value.
Another Palace defender who should deliver value for money. Palace’s fixtures are kind, and he provides coverage at a very friendly price.
Complements the rest of the defence well and has strong baseline stats for bonus and defensive contribution points. Rotates nicely in this setup.
At £4.0m, Esteve is a budget-enabler. He not only frees up funds but also fits into Bench Boost considerations for Gameweeks 5 and 8, both at home against favourable opposition.
Despite a subdued start, Salah remains the standout captaincy choice for Gameweeks 4 and 5. His historical pedigree speaks for itself, and with fixtures against Burnley and Everton, managers should have little concern.
A mainstay in the midfield, Bruno offers penalties, set pieces, 90-minute reliability, and a variety of routes to points, including the new defensive contribution system.
Now deployed in the number 10 role for West Ham, he combines security of minutes with defensive contribution points, set-piece involvement, and excellent value.
With O’Riley off to Marseille, Georginio should see an uptick in minutes. His versatility to play as both a 9 or 10 increases his appeal.
Another defensive contribution machine. Decent fixtures and a share of the set pieces are an added advantage. His price tag makes him a useful asset.
He is Arsenal’s talisman in Havertz’s absence, nailed for 90 minutes and on penalties. An Arsenal striker playing as the central 9 with spot-kicks is simply too good to ignore.
Though underwhelming so far, Aston Villa’s fixture run is kind, and Watkins’ track record suggests he can bounce back quickly.
Crystal Palace’s main man, nailed for minutes with Nketiah injured and now on penalties in Eze’s absence. His fixtures over the next few weeks are excellent.
