The Best Differential options for your FPL team ahead of Gameweek 7.
What is a differential? A differential refers to a player with Low ownership/EO. This means they are not a common feature in FPL teams. For the sake of this article we will call a differential any player with less than 15% ownership. Meaning they are found in less than 1/6th of FPL teams.
Following the template in FPL is easy, we can see who everyone else has in their team and copy them. But what gets you ahead and keeps you ahead are those differential picks with low ownership/EO. Now sometimes these can blow up in your face, particularly if they end up being a minutes risk. So, make sure you stay up to date with our Predicted Line-Ups hub before locking some of these in.
Also check out our Gameweek 7 Wildcard team for some great options who are on the more template end, as despite being popular options, there are some essential transfers among them.
Without further ado we present the Best Gameweek 7 FPL Differentials:
In case you didn’t read the Gameweek 7 Wildcard piece where my full love was confessed for Munoz, I will be sharing the exact same sentiment about why he is such a fantastic option moving forward.
Palace have now gone 18, yes 18!!!! Games unbeaten and have conceded the least goals in the league with 3 across their 6 games. So, the clean sheet potential is evident for all to see.
However, what’s even more attractive about Munoz, is his attacking output. In his last 5 games he has averaged 0.37 xGI. Higher than the likes of Joao Pedro, Bowen, Watkins etc during the same period. Remember he did this as a DEFENDER… ON AN ELITE DEFENCE… and he was also unlucky not to have scored against champions Liverpool. This xGI would have him on pace for 14 attacking returns this year. On top of tons of clean sheets. The attacking returns are coming trust me. Just get him in. Their next 9 fixtures excluding Arsenal are all solid fixtures, so now is as good a time as any to bring him in. Did we mention he is also only at 12.5% ownership. This is the perfect opportunity to get ahead of the points instead of chasing them.
Another Palace player and a man who should need no introduction to FPL players is Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr. Coming off an injury has meant he is not only super low ownership at 3.9% but also even cheaper at £6.4m. Crystal Palace currently top the Premier League table for xG and look unstoppable. Sarr personally is averaging an xGI per 90 this season of 0.90, which is more than some entire teams. A focal point of a great attack who is cheap, low ownership and more likely to return than not every game by underlying stats. Sarr is as good a differential as it gets.
Value Alert: With 3 goals in his last 3 starts and an xG per 90 of 0.72, Sarr’s anytime Goalscorer odds of 10/3 could prove fantastic value!
Another fantastic differential option comes in the form of Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh. Minteh has started every single game this season and looks to have locked down that right wing spot. More importantly for FPL however, has been his 3 returns in his last 3 games. These are particularly significant as they all game against quality opposition in the form of Bournemouth, Spurs and Chelsea. Minteh is averaging an xGI per 90 of 0.53 this season and with Brighton’s fantastic fixtures coming up, all signs point to multiple returns over the next few Gameweeks.
With 3 starts in his last 3 games and 4 assists to boot, Doku seems to be the preferred LW of choice at City for the moment. Now granted Pep teams will often be rotated heavily and players like Doku seem to know this all too well. However, for now I think we can trust that most starting minutes in the immediate future will be going Doku’s way. Averaging an xGI of 0.55 per game during this stretch and with Brighton, United and Wolves as 3 of their next 4 fixtures, Doku should have a great opportunity for some returns.
Surprise surprise, it’s another Palace player. This time it comes in the form of Chris Richards. Another feature from the Gameweek 7 Wildcard team. Another member of the defence who have conceded the least goals this season, Richards also offers a fantastic route into the DefCon returns. Averaging 10.5 Defensive Contributions per 90, Richards offers a cheap, low owned, and high Defcon potential route into one of the league’s better defences. A great option at only 2.8% ownership and £4.5m price.
With ownership sneaking just inside the 15% threshold, the next great differential option comes in the form of Enzo Fernandez. Perhaps not a common feature in as many elite teams as he could be, Enzo appears to be going slightly under the radar, at least in terms of discourse. Which is quite strange for the 6th highest scorer in the entire FPL. Enzo is averaging 0.75 xGI in his last 5 games and with Palmer out, will likely continue his attacking involvement. Chelsea’s fixtures are also fantastic, with Forest, Burnley, Wolves and Sunderland as 4 of their next 6.
Now given these 3 were all very similar assets it is probably worth discussing in the same paragraph. Both Sunderland and Leeds have been surprisingly good defences this season, with Sunderland sitting 5th in Lowest xGA allowed and Leeds sitting 7th. The main draw to these 3 however is their DefCon representation. Rodon averages 9.33 DC’s a game, Alderete averages 10.9 and Mukiele averages a whopping 12.75. Although statistically Mukiele offers the highest DefCon chance, Rodon offers better fixtures and Alderete offers better attacking potential. So there is no wrong option really depending on what you’re after.
The true definition of sneaking under the threshold. The final differential on the list is non other than Jurrien Timber. If you find yourself a bit short of cash for the Gabriel move, then Timber provides an excellent and slightly cheaper route into the Arsenal defence. Not only do Arsenal have the best defence in the league, they also have the best fixtures, which should mean multiple clean sheets in the upcoming stretch. Where Timber’s added value comes in however, is his attacking return potential, averaging 0.44 xGI per 90 this season. A figure which would average out to around 17 attacking returns this season, just crazy for a defender. Even crazier for a defender on the best defence in the league. On top of this pace being tricky to sustain, there is always the minutes risk aspect for Timber as well. Not least with the new UCL format and Arsenal’s plethora of defensive options. So, make sure you have solid cover if you do opt for him. The ceiling is fantastic though!
