Game Week 7: FPL Bois’ Captaincy Thread

CAPTAINCY THREAD

As we edge closer to another international break, now is the time to climb up the ranks! Backed by our scoring matrix, we highlight three candidates for this week’s captaincy who could help you do so:

Salah – CRY (A)

With his 4th double digit haul in 6 weeks, Mo Salah has been living up to his hype and makes his way to the captaincy shortlist for GW7 as well! He will be up against a Palace side who are 18th in the table and have kept only 1 CS (Clean Sheet) so far, ranking 14th for xGC (Expected Goals Conceded) at home while conceding 53 chances, in 6 games, of which the 18 are from their left, offering plenty of potential opportunities to Salah!

He ranks 3rd for xG (Expected Goals), 6th for nPxG (Non-Penalty Expected Goals), 10th for xA (Expected Assists), 5th for Big Chances Created, 1st for Penalty Area Touches and has the potential to find a moment of brilliance even if his performance is lackluster by his standards. LIV have been thriving and are ranked 2nd for xG and 3rd for Big Chances Created and will now be looking to strengthen their hold of the top spot with another win and more goals.

Salah also boasts a strong record against Palace, with 8 goals and 5 assists in 14 games! With all indicators pointing in the right direction, coupled with his penalty duties, Salah makes a very strong case for his candidacy for the captain’s armband.

Saka – SOU (H)

From one right winger to another, starboy Bukayo Saka is up next as he takes on 19th placed Southampton who haven’t kept a CS in the first 6 games of the season. After netting against PSG in the midweek fixture, Saka will be looking to build on this momentum, positioning him for a big FPL haul.

Saka is currently ranked 3rd for xA, 1st Big Chances Created and is the focal point of Arsenal’s attack, who rank 1st for xG at home and 4th for Big Chances Created. Southampton have so far conceded a whopping 76 chances of which 29 have come from Saka’s flank, and he would definitely fancy his chances against Charlie Taylor.

Being on penalties and free kicks further raise the ceiling for him and for you, if you choose to hand him the armband this GW!

Haaland – FUL (H)

It was an unusual sight, seeing Haaland blank in a GW, but we believe he will be resuming his normal services this week against Fulham, who’ve only kept 1 clean sheet this year. City rank 2nd for xG at home and 6th for Big Chances Created and will be the first team Fulham face who are creating an xG of 2+ per 90 minutes!

Haaland has been in pole position for xG and nPxG which is reflected by his goal tally of 10 goals in 6 games, of which he’s scored 6 in 3 at home! Fulham have conceded 51 chances in total and with the City midfield flourishing in attack, they will always be on the lookout to feed the hungry robot.

Haaland has a formidable record against Fulham with 5 goals and 1 assist in just 4 games, and the signs suggest that we could see these numbers extrapolate on the weekend. Heading into the GW with a goal in the UCL fixture, Haaland definitely is a strong contender for this week’s captaincy!

Thank you for reading our article! Who are you trusting with the armband to lead you to another week of green arrows?
