The FPL mania is in full swing as we start off with the first of two consecutive double Gameweeks in DGW 32. It’s time to make a big call on captaincy so here are three candidates who could lead you back to maximizing hauls to cover any gaps in our mini leagues:

Isak – MUN (H) and CRY (H)

Alexander Isak is the standout captaincy choice for DGW32, thanks to his double fixtures at home against Manchester United and Crystal Palace. The Swedish striker has been a revelation this season, with 20 goals (ranked 3rd) and five assists from 26 starts, ranking 3rd for xG, 3rd for nPxG and 5th for penalty area touches. Being the focal point of Newcastle’s attack which is  firing big, sitting 6th for goals scored, 5th for xG, and 10th for Big Chances Created.

Isak’s recent form has been exceptional, with 8 goals and 3 assists in his last 8 home matches, and he’s proven he can dominate both opponents in this double. Facing Manchester United, who’ve conceded 12 goals in their last six away games against top-five xG teams, and Crystal Palace, who’ve started showing some vulnerabilities in defence, Isak’s home advantage and Newcastle’s push for European spots ensure he’ll be central to their attacking plans. His minutes-per-goal ratio of 107.3 and penalty-taking duties make him a must-have for the armband.

He scored against Manchester United earlier this season, creating three big chances and taking five shots on target. With Newcastle’s strong home record (1.73 xG per game) and both teams vulnerable to central attacks, Isak is primed to deliver big returns in both fixtures, making him a top captaincy pick for DGW32.

Salah – WHU (H)

Mohamed Salah remains a rock-solid captaincy option in DGW32, even with Liverpool playing just once this week, against West Ham. The Egyptian king has shattered his own FPL points record this season, ranking 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 3rd for xA, 1st for big chances created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches. Liverpool’s attack leads the league, with a team xG of 2.19 per game, and Salah’s consistency ensures he’s a safe yet high-ceiling pick for managers seeking stability in a double Gameweek.

Salah’s form has been relentless, with returns in eight of his last ten games before rare consecutive blanks, and he’s the talisman of a Liverpool side that dominates possession and creates chances at will. Facing West Ham, who rank 17th for xGC he’s poised for another double digit haul, thanks to his elite stats: 0.74 xG and 0.24 xA per 90, plus seven big chances created in his last six games. With Liverpool ranking 1st for team xG at home (2.13 per game), Salah’s set-piece involvement and goal threat make him a strong armband candidate for those not considering DGW assets.

Against West Ham, Salah has had a feast with 13 goals and 5 assists in 17 games against them, and in his last three games vs West Ham at Anfield he’s averaging 2.7 key passes and 2 shots on target per game. West Ham’s defence is vulnerable to wide attacks which further lifts Salah’s potential, making him a reliable choice to lead your team even with a single fixture.

Mateta – MCI (A) and NEW (A)

Jean-Philippe Mateta is a differential captaincy option for DGW32, with Crystal Palace facing Manchester City and Newcastle away from home in their double. The French forward has been Palace’s main man up top, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in his last ten games. Priced at just £7.7m, he’s a budget-friendly pick with upside, and while Palace’s fixtures are tough, Mateta’s role as the focal point of their attack against two high-flying defenses could yield surprising returns.

Mateta’s form has been impressive, with three big chances created in his last six games, and Crystal Palace’s attack, though mid-tier (11th for xG), has shown flashes of brilliance against big teams. Facing Manchester City, who rank 8th for xGC, and Newcastle, who concede 1.28 xGC per 90 at home, Mateta’s pace and finishing could exploit gaps, especially if Oliver Glasner’s side push for goals. His ownership is still relatively low at 17%, making him a great differential for mini-league battles.

Against these oppositions, Mateta has potential. In his last two games against a “top-six” side like, he scored three goals, and against Newcastle in the previous season, he scored a brace in a 2-0 win for the Eagles. With Palace likely to target City’s occasional defensive lapses and Newcastle’s vulnerability to counters, coupled with his penalty duties, Mateta makes for a bold but exciting captaincy choice for DGW32.
