The 15 days long wait is almost over! FPL is back! And now let’s push for the final stretch to get our strongest finish to a season, starting with this week’s captaincy. Here are three candidates who could set you up perfectly for a start of a long string of green arrows:

Salah – EVE (H)

It’s been close to a month since we’ve seen the King feature in the shortlist but he’s back as he takes on cross-town rivals. Everton have seen a slump defensively in the recent weeks and now rank 7th for xGC and have kept zero clean sheets in their last 6 games leading to just 1 win with an aggregate scoreline of 9-8, further adding fuel to the fire that Salah has been breathing!

In case you’ve forgotten, Salah’s season has been PHENOMENAL so far and he currently ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 2nd for xA, 2nd for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches. And now with Liverpool only focusing on the PL their efforts would all be targeted towards wrapping up the title ASAP by continuing to be the attacking force that they’ve been, currently ranking 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created.

Salah has an impressive record against Everton with 8 goals and 2 assists in 12 games including a goal and an assist from the reverse fixture earlier this season (for which we hope you’d joined us in the TC feast). With some setbacks in the recent weeks, Liverpool would be looking to make a statement on their return to PL football this week. Their star-man will be eager to lead the charge, making him an excellent choice for this week’s captaincy.

Haaland – LEI (H)

Slowly but surely Erling Haaland is crawling to get back to his best, and the fixture against Leicester City could prove to be the catapult that’s needed. The Foxes rank 18th for xGC and have conceded 16 goals in their last 6 games still without ANY response. Leicester have been very weak defensively and seem to be extra vulnerable to concede from players through the middle, giving Erling a further leg-up this Gameweek.

He’s had his ups and downs this season but the stats continue to remain impressive, as he ranks 2nd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 1st for nPxG, and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches. City would also be looking to up the ante now as they continue their fight for a UCL spot, their attack ranks 2nd for goals scored, 4th for xG, and 5th for Big Chances Created – all of which could see a healthy gain after the fixture against Leicester.

Haaland’s record this season against the promoted teams is very strong with 6 goals from 4 games that led to 37 FPL points. We can expect to see more of this again against Leiecester due to his huge ceiling, making his case for captaincy this Gameweek very strong!

*With the recent injury to him in the FA Cup fixture, Marmoush becomes a strong replacement in case Erling isn’t fit for the fixture.

Mateta – SOU (A)4

It’s that time of the season where we start seeing exciting differential captaincy picks as a means to chase rank. Jean-Phillippe Mateta fits the bill perfectly as he takes on Southampton who have conceded the most goals in the league while ranking 20th for xGC and have conceded 16 goals in their last 5 while keeping no clean sheets (just 2 in the entire season).

Mateta has had a solid season so far leading the line for the Eagles, and he currently ranks 10th for goals scored, 8th for xG, and 8th for nPxG. Palace are on the up with 4 wins from their last 5 and their attack could really take the Southampton defence to the cleaners, currently ranked 15th for goals scored, 9th for xG, and 10th for Big Chances Created.

Mateta has been decent against the promoted teams this season with 4 goals from 4 games leading to 31 FPL points, and now with the spring in step of the Palace attack we can expect to see another strong performance, making him an incredible differential captaincy option this Gameweek.
