Blink and you miss it! Another FPL deadline is on the brink as we see GW26 complete with another captaincy haul. Now, here are three candidates who can help carry this momentum forward and lead you to more green arrows:

Salah – NEW (H)

At the time of writing, the Sunday games are yet to be played, but that doesn’t in any way hamper the chances of the king kicking things off once again for the captaincy shortlist. He takes on Newcastle, who have hit a slump, having lost three of their last four PL games with an aggregate score line of 5-11! Besides, they have conceded 16 goals in 7 games against the teams that currently rank in the top for xG.

Salah’s season has been stellar so far, and he ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 3rd for xA, 2nd for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches, being the talisman for one of the best attacks in Europe. Liverpool ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created in the league. They will now also be looking to extend their lead at the top with Arsenal slipping up this weekend, and a win against Newcastle would really help them up the ante.

No surprises here—Salah’s record against Newcastle has been phenomenal, with 10 goals and 7 assists in 16 games, including a brace and an assist in the 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture. His attacking threat can prove to be more than a handful once again for the Newcastle defence, making him an excellent captaincy choice this game week.

Palmer – SOU (H)

A proven asset with arguably the best fixture one can get this season. His recent form has been poor, though, which doesn’t make him stand out as the obvious choice for the armband this game week as he otherwise would have been. Chelsea have been struggling as a team too, with just one win from their last four PL games, having an aggregate score line of 4-9. This small swing of fixtures is something they will look to maximize.

Southampton are ranked 20th for xGC and have conceded the most goals (61) in the league, including 5 in the thumping they received from Chelsea in the reverse fixture! Chelsea will be looking for a repeat of that at home this time, and Palmer will be the one most heavily involved in the mix with his creativity, finishing, and spot-kick duties. Despite the slump, Palmer has 28 points in his last 4 PL home games and could push the ceiling even higher with this fixture.

Palmer currently ranks 6th for goals scored, 5th for xG, 7th for nPxG, 9th for assists, 1st for xA, and 1st for Big Chances Created, as he spearheads the Chelsea attack that ranks 5th for goals scored, 2nd for xG, and 2nd for Big Chances Created. He has seen a huge number of FPL managers sell him in recent weeks, and handing him the armband this week could turn out to be a differential move in an excellent fixture for an excellent player!

Haaland – TOT (A)

He’s backkkk! Erling Haaland has finally crawled his way back onto the shortlist as he takes on a Spurs defence that has conceded 14 goals in 5 games against teams currently ranked in the top 6 for xG. This adds perspective to the see-saw season Spurs have been having. Now, with City looking for a strong response after the UCL humbling, Haaland could have a high ceiling against Spurs’ high line—if he is fit.

Erling ranks 2nd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 1st for nPxG, and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches, and he is the focal point of the City attack that ranks 3rd for goals scored, 4th for xG, and 5th for Big Chances Created. City will also be looking to get even with Spurs, who scored four without response at the Etihad in the reverse fixture, as they bid to maintain their top-four position and qualify for the UCL.

Haaland’s record against Spurs is decent, with 3 goals and 1 assist in 5 games, and he has 6 goals and 2 assists in his last 7 PL appearances, leading to 52 points over that course! If you have him, he could be a great pick for the armband this week, posing a big threat to the Spurs defence with his elite positioning and sublime finishing.
