No surprises about who tops the list this week. However, with Salah struggling a little bit for form in recent weeks, the opportunity for a sneaky differential choice could present itself!

Four attacking returns from our shortlist picks brought us back to the green arrows train and now we welcome the first double Gameweek of the season with three candidates who could help you maximize the joy of it:

Salah – BOU (A) and EVE (A)

One fixture feels so nice and now we get to do it twice! The Egyptian king leads the way once again as he takes on Bournemouth and Everton in two away fixtures as Liverpool continue their march towards the title. Slot’s men would now be eager to grab the 6 points this Gameweek and take their lead to 9+ points!

After missing out in two consecutive game weeks, Salah was back among the returns with a goal that extends his lead further in the race for the golden boot. He also ranks 2nd for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 4th for xA, 3rd for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches. He’s leading by example for the Liverpool attack whose reign at the summit also continues as they rank 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created.

Salah has made both defences dance to his tunes well having scored 7 goals along with an assist in 11 games against Everton, and further improving on it with 9 goals and 2 assists in 11 games against Bournemouth! He’s arguably in his best form this season which could lead to his ceiling being incredibly high this game week, making him the best candidate for captaincy and possibly the triple captain chip too!

Alexander-Arnold – BOU (A) and EVE (A)

But bois, Liverpool are not all about their attack, they have a top tier defence too! This brings us to our next pick, Trent Alexander-Arnold. Trent is a key part of the stellar Liverpool defence that ranks 1st for xGC and have conceded the least number of goals so far this season! Trent gets to enjoy the benefits of this defensive unit while his game focuses more on the attack, making him an asset in both halves of the field.

Liverpool have conceded just one goal in their last three away games that featured Brentford who have scored the most goals at home (29G in 12), and West Ham and Nottingham – both similar attacks at home to Bournemouth (BOU 17G in 11, WHU 16G in 12, NFO 15G in 11).

Meanwhile Everton are the 2nd weakest team at home by xG managing only 11.7 xG in 11 games without playing against the best defence. Trent can double up with his creativity that has already been rewarding to his team and sees him rank 6th for assists, 1st for xA, and 7th for Big Chances Created.

In the last 3 PL games Liverpool have kept 2 clean sheets against Bournemouth (with an agg scoreline of 10-1) and 2 clean sheets against Everton (with an aggregate scoreline of 4-2). Trent also has a goal and 3 assists against Bournemouth in 9 games and would look to get more attacking returns against Everton as he currently has just one assist from 15 games. Defensive cover on the best defence coupled with his creativity make Trent a strong contender for the armband this week.

Gakpo – BOU (A) and EVE (A)

The star of GW23 rounds up the list completing a full house by Liverpool players. He has been looking in great touch during his recent performances and was reflected in the latest outing against Ipswich Town where he scored 2 goals and assisted 1 leading to his biggest haul of 16 points! He’s cementing his position as a reliable outlet for the Liverpool attack and we just read how impressive they’ve been this season.

Gakpo’s underlying numbers are picking up pace too. He now ranks 12th for goals scored, 28th for xG, and 24th for nPxG. He has 1 goal and 1 assist against Bournemouth in 5 games and 1 goal from 1 against Everton. His linkup play with his teammates and sublime finishing make him an interesting choice for captaincy as he compliments the best attack in the league really well and could once again end up being the top scorer over the two fixtures.

Thank you for reading our article! Are you also all-in on the Liverpool assets or do you plan to go with someone else?
