Game Week 22: FPL Bois Best Captains
A game week where captaincy was evenly spread across the popular FPL assets, saw a mixed bag of reactions from the managers as some hauled while others blanked. Here are this week’s three top candidates who could help you get some green arrows this time of asking:

  • Make sure you check out the Transfer Wizard for any transfer decisions with a customisable budget slider.
  • Also make sure you check out the FPL Player Rankings series for the best budget and premium options in each position group.

Salah – BRE (A)

We got to experience a blank from the Egyptian king for the first time in 13 game weeks! Now that it’s in the past, the new streak could start from the very next fixture as he leads the dominant Liverpool attack against a Brentford defence that ranks 14th for xGC and has conceded 17 goals in 7 games against the ‘Top 6’.
He still reigns supreme across the stats, ranking 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 5th for xA, 3rd for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches and being the torch bearer for a sublime attack that ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created.  He has been operating in the Balon d’Or territory this season, and another trademark performance against a shaky defence could help him continue this momentum.
He has enjoyed playing against Brentford and boasts a strong record of 6 goals and 1 assist in 6 games against them including a goal in the 2-0 win in the reverse fixture this season. We’ve seen the magic of his finishing and creativity reflect plenty of hauls for us this season and his ceiling for this fixture remains high, making him a very strong candidate for this week’s captaincy.

Haaland – IPS (A)

Another heavyweight who blanked last game week, Erling Haaland, retains his spot from last week. Right when it appeared like City were on the cusp of their comeback they faltered again in the last 10 minutes to throw away a 2-0 lead. The next fixture against Ipswich Town presents the perfect opportunity to put on a dominating performance and get a statement victory that actually begins their resurgence.
Erling’s strong start to the season still sees him ride the stats wave high as he is ranked 2nd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 1st for nPxG, and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches. He will be leading the line for the City attack that ranks 6th for goals scored, 4th for xG, and 8th for Big Chances Created, against a leaky Ipswich Town defence that ranks 19th for xGC and has kept just one clean sheet against the ‘Top 6’ from 6 games.
Erling had a field day the last time he faced Ipswich bagging his 1st hattrick of the season and now will be looking to repeat the same and get his team back to winning ways. A hungry forward against a defensively vulnerable side has the makings of a perfect pairing for FPL managers, and more so for the ones who choose to hand him the armband this game week.

Palmer – WOL (H)

With his third ten pointer in the last 4 game weeks, Cole Palmer has been proving why he’s been such a reliable FPL asset since last season. He makes his return to the shortlist as he’s set to take on a Wolves defence who have conceded 8 goals in their last 3 PL games and rank 15th for xGC. Their defensive record against the “top 6’ is also very shaky having conceded 14 goals in 6 games.
His numbers reflect his overall threat in attack as he ranks 4th for goals scored, 4th for xG, 6th for nPxG, 6th for assists, and 2nd for Big Chances Created which have led Chelsea to rank 3rd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, and 2nd for Big Chances Created. Maresca’s men are now on a run of 5 games without a win, and Palmer’s masterclass against a weaker defence could help them break free from this.
Chelsea’s biggest win of this PL campaign so far has been against Wolves where they won 6-2 including one goal and three assists from Palmer. His creativity and finishing coupled with some assistance from his teammates (look away Jackson owners) could see him achieve another double digit haul, making him a strong contender for the armband this game week.
