A very happy new year to all the FPL managers here, let’s aim to get even more returns and green arrows to make this our best FPL year. Here are this year’s first three candidates who could help you start things off the right way:

Salah – MUN (H)

200+ points in just 18 fixtures! The Egyptian King is having a season worthy of Ballon d’Or shouts! He already has 17 goals and 13 assists to his name this season and will now be taking on arch rivals Manchester United who are struggling for form having lost 5 of their last 6 games in the league with an aggregate scoreline of 13-4.

Salah’s dominance is echoing all across as he now ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 2nd for nPxG, 1st for assists, 6th for xA, 3rd for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches! All this despite playing one game less than other major assets! This golden run has helped Liverpool to become the best attack in the league as they rank 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created.

Salah has had incredible success in this fixture in the past and boasts of a mighty record of 15 goals and 6 assists against United in 16 games!! And with the current form of both teams, we can again expect him to run the show making him an excellent choice for the captain’s armband once again.

Haaland – WHU (H)

Back on the scoresheet – Erling Haaland helped guide Man City to a win in what felt like ages, and this could now be the turning point for them to get their season back on track. City have a kind run of fixtures and will be facing West Ham next who rank 17th for xGC and have conceded 21 goals in 6 games against the ‘Top 6’.

Despite the slump in form earlier, Haaland’s numbers are still very strong as he ranks 2nd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 1st for nPxG, and for 2nd Penalty Area Touches. City are also looking sharp once again as an attacking unit and rank 6th for goals scored, 5th for xG and 7th for Big Chances Created, with the upturn in form and a fixture against an opponent who has conceded 4th most goals in the league (most at home), these numbers could see an improvement for City.

Haaland has enjoyed playing against West Ham and has 7 goals in 5 games including a hattrick in the reverse fixture earlier this season! This is City’s time to make up on lost ground and they will be looking to make a statement against weaker defences. With Erling being the focal point of the attack and having penalty duties, this fixture could again see a big haul from him, making him a strong contender for this week’s captaincy.

Isak – TOT (A)

A hot streak of returns in six consecutive Gameweeks has surely drawn a lot of attention to our third pick this week, Alexander Isak. Newcastle are in sublime form, with an aggregate scoreline of 13-0 in their last 4 games, and are now going into this fixture against Spurs who rank 16th for xGC and have conceded 13 goals in their last 5 PL fixtures!

The Swedish forward is in incredible form and has scored 8 goals along with 2 assists in the last 6 PL fixtures leading him to 62 points, making the most in form forward! He now ranks 3rd for goals scored, 4th for xG, 3rd for nPxG, and 9th for Penalty Area Touches. His strong presence up top has led to Newcastle ranking 6th for goals scored, 7th for xG, and 9th for Big Chances Created.

Isak has been a part of 3 wins in the 4 games that he has faced Spurs in, contributing with 5 goals including the winner in the reverse fixture in GW3. The high line of Spurs’ defence could once again lead to Newcastle creating plenty of chances, and with Isak being at the end of most with his exquisite finishing, he makes a strong case to wear the armband for your team this week.
