Game Week 16: FPL Bois Best Captains

Before we get started, Ingenuity have just begun their Weekly FPL Rankings series with Brad Mayor where they rank the best FPL players for the upcoming 5 Game Weeks. check it out Here!

Now back to what you came for.

After a rather chaotic week, the FPL fun continues! In this article, we highlight three players who could get you in the festive mood a few days early with some big green arrows to hang on your trees:

Palmer – BRE (H)

The saviour for many in GW15, Cole Palmer is the man to kick things off once again this week as he takes on Brentford, who have looked shaky and rank 17th for xGC in away games! They’ve conceded 184 chances in 14 games, with the most (69) coming from the middle, where Palmer can operate at his best both as a creator and a finisher.

After another monster haul, Palmer proved his worth to his owners (and non-owners). He now ranks 3rd for goals scored, 3rd for xG, 3rd for nPxG (what?), 3rd for assists, 5th for xA, and 2nd for Big Chances Created! He’s been exceptional in leading Maresca’s men in attack, who now rank 1st for xG, 2nd for Big Chances Created, and have scored the most goals in the league!

On the other end of the spectrum, Brentford have conceded 28 goals in 15 games (4th most) and have kept just one clean sheet the entire season (against Everton). Palmer is in great form and will look to carry this momentum throughout the holiday season to put Chelsea in a great spot, making him a strong candidate for this week’s captaincy!

Haaland – MUN (H)

The Manchester Derby has been decorated with his name ever since he made his debut, and that’s the reason we welcome Erling Haaland back to the shortlist as he takes on local rivals, Manchester United! After a spike in form, United have hit a slump again with consecutive losses in the league while conceding 5 goals! United have also struggled against the ‘Top 6’ this season, with the aggregate score line reading 9-1 in 4 games (3 losses and 1 draw).

And there are no prizes for guessing—Haaland continues to top the charts for goals scored, xG, and nPxG! He’s now also ranked 2nd for Penalty Area Touches, and with the return of De Bruyne, this stat could only get better 😉 While City’s struggles haven’t vanished, their attacking numbers are still looking good as they rank 3rd for xG and 6th for goals scored. Haaland’s pace and aerial threat could be troublesome for the United defence, as they’ve been unable to contain pressure from both.

Haaland will be looking to run it back once again against one of his favourite oppositions and build on a robust record of 6 goals and 3 assists in 7 games. A derby win could be the statement that Pep and his men are looking for to bring the season back on track, and a firing Erling Haaland could lead them to it, making a very strong case for his candidacy for captaincy this week.

Salah – FUL (H)

Thought it’d be a week without him? The Egyptian King has become more than a mainstay on this list and once again features to make a compelling argument on why he should be handed the armband! After missing out in the previous game week due to a cancelled game, Salah now takes on Fulham, who have kept just one clean sheet since GW6!

Despite playing one game less, Salah is still hovering around the top spots for most stats as he ranks 1st for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 5th for nPxG, 2nd for assists, 13th for xA, 1st for Penalty Area Touches, and 11th for Big Chances Created! Slot will also be looking to extend his lead at the top and continue the unbeaten run with a victory, for which his attack will be more than up to the task, ranking 1st for Big Chances Created and 4th for xG.

Salah has 4 goals and an assist against Fulham in 8 games and once again could be pivotal in dictating the game through his creativity, finishing, and set-piece contributions. He’s delivered attacking returns for 7 weeks straight, and there have been no signs of slowing down, making him a very strong contender for this week’s captaincy!
