Game Week 14: FPL Bois’ Captaincy Thread

Captaincy Thread

Blink and you’ll miss it! Just a day between the two game weeks sets the pace for some exciting football in the holiday season, and to maximize the potential of this window, we highlight three candidates who could help you get started with a flier 🚀

Salah – NEW (A)

There’s no stopping the king as he continues delivering for his managers with another 13-pointer in his latest affair against Man City, taking his average to 11.83 points/game in his last six (three of these were against the Top 6!).

He now takes on a Newcastle defense that has conceded 131 chances in 12 games (47 of them coming from the right). He is looking excellent in terms of creativity, which has added a new flavor to his game, and now ranks 2nd for goals, 2nd for xG, 6th for nPxG, 2nd for assists, 11th for xA, and 9th for Big Chances Created!

Yesterday’s game highlighted the merits of Slot’s attacking display, which is deservedly ranked 1st for xG and Big Chances Created. He also has a strong record against Newcastle with 8 goals and 6 assists in 15 games, making him a strong candidate for the armband once again!

Palmer – SOU (A)

Back in the points with a 14-pointer against Aston Villa, and now taking on a leaky Southampton defense that’s ranked 20th for xGC, the Cole Palmer stock is on the rise and has our attention for captaincy this game week.

Southampton have conceded a STAGGERING 165 chances in 12 games (13.75/game)! This raises the ceiling for another monster haul for Palmer, who proved he can get the returns even when playing in a deeper-than-usual role. He now ranks 4th for goals, 6th for xG, 8th for nPxG, 3rd for assists, 12th for xA, and 2nd for Big Chances Created!

The Chelsea talisman has been pivotal to their attack, which is now ranked 4th for xG and 6th for Big Chances Created. He would now be eager to get into the top two in the PL standings as Arsenal face a tougher fixture. The threat from the spot remains unchanged for Palmer, and in-form teammates add to the charm of making him the captain of your team.

Haaland – NFO (H)

There surely has to be light at the end of the tunnel, right? RIGHT!?!? The gloomy November for Man City can be perfectly captured by Erling Haaland, who had just one return (a 5-pointer) in four games, seeing four consecutive losses for the first time in the Oil Era.

The City attack on paper still remains good and is ranked 2nd for xG. They’ll be taking on the Nottingham Forest defense, who have conceded 127 chances in 12 games evenly spread across the field (43-42-42), which bodes well for the creative hub that feeds Haaland as they finally look to end this underperformance.

Haaland still ranks 1st for goals, 1st for xG, and 1st for nPxG and has a solid record of 5 goals in 4 games against their opposition, who are currently rivaling them for a European spot. After yesterday’s incidents, Pep would also be looking to make a point and prove why he has six titles in seven years. It feels weird that Haaland is considered a risk for captaincy, but being brave and going against the template might just be the push you need in case you’re looking to catch up on a big difference.
