Game Week 13: FPL Bois’ Captaincy Thread

It’s time to make some room on the table for a strong captaincy performance. In this article, we highlight three candidates who could help you feast on some big green arrows:

Mbeumo – LEI (H)

An unorthodox pick to get us started for this week’s shortlist. Bryan Mbeumo makes a very strong case for his candidacy for your team’s captaincy as he takes on a Leicester defence that rank 18th for xGC (and 19th for xGC in away games). They have conceded 150 chances in 11 games out of which 60 have come through the left, the zone which Mbeumo will play through!

He’s had a solid start to the season that has made him a strong hold for so many FPL managers, and is backed by his stats which see him rank 3rd for goals scored, 18th for xG, 7th for xA. As we’ve seen earlier, Brentford’s home record has been beyond impressive. They now rank 1st for xG in home games (6th overall) and have created 37 big chances, ranking them 4th!

Mbeumo has been a key figure in this attack and will continue to deliver with his creativity and finishing. He has 60 points in 6 games at home this season. Now Leicester comes in with a worse record than 5 of these opponents in away games and have conceded the most goals (14) in 6 away games. He could be a big differential for anyone looking to catch up in their mini leagues.

Salah – MCI (H)

The mainstay of this shortlist, King Mo Salah makes another appearance after getting a brace in the previous fixture! The ultimate big-game player has shown on multiple occasions why he is fixture-proof and has a very strong record against rivals Manchester City with 11 goals and 6 assists in 21 games.

With just 2 blanks in 12 GWs, Salah is flying to another monster season! He ranks 2nd for goals scored, 2nd for xG, 5th for nPxG, 2nd for assists, 20th for xA, 10th for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches! He is the perfect leader for Slot’s system that ranks 3rd for xG and 1st for Big Chances Created. He will be eager to show his class on Sunday by extending their lead to 11 points at the top in just 13 games!

City are looking like a shadow of their former selves, currently with no wins in their last 6 games. They most recently bottled a 3-0 advantage to a Feyenoord side in the UCL who are a much weaker attack compared to Liverpool. In the PL too they are currently ranked 8th for xGC which is significantly lower from where they have consistently been for the past few seasons. Salah is once again the reliable option making a strong case for why he should get the armband this week!

Palmer – AVL (H)

While Palmer may have gone cold on form in the recent PL games, this week could be the one where he bounces back to deliver some big returns for his managers. He takes on Aston Villa who rank 13th in away games and have conceded 11 goals (5th most) in 6 away games. Their record against ‘The Top 6’ is also poor this season with an aggregate scoreline of 8-1 from 4 games.

Palmer has been the key man for Chelsea’s attack, leading them to rank 4th for xG as well as Big Chances Created, and has seen Maresca’s side exceed everyone’s pre-season expectation’s for Chelsea. On an individual level, Palmer has been proving his quality as a playmaker as well as a finisher, and ranks 5th for goals scored, 6th for xG, 7th for nPxG, 3rd for assists, 9th for xA, and 2nd for Big Chances Created!

Villa are winless in their last 4 PL games and Chelsea would look to capitalise on this weak run of form to push themselves into the top 2 this week! Palmer could be the guiding light for your team in a week which doesn’t have many standout choices.
