Game Week 13: BigManBakar’s Best FPL Differentials

Best differentials to own for Game week 13

For our purposes, a differential refers to a player owned by around 15% or less of FPL managers.

1) Joao Pedro (Ownership: 12.9%, Price: £5.6m)

This is probably the last time I’d get the opportunity to call Joao Pedro a “differential” this season. As of now, his ownership is below the 15% benchmark that we’ve set but with over 400k transfers in for this Game week, his ownership is only heading in one direction.

At £5.6m, João Pedro is almost a no-brainer to own. With penalty duties and a superb set of fixtures on the horizon, the Brighton talisman offers great value and flexibility in strengthening the rest of your squad.

Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler has described him as the point of difference in the Brighton team, so there’s minimal threat of rotation as well.

He’s the ideal player to get if you’re looking for a replacement for someone like Dominic Calvert Lewin or Strand Larsen. A lot of people are torn between picking one of João Pedro or Cunha this week but at this point, I prefer Joao Pedro as he has the slightly better fixtures & his non penalty xGi per 90 is much superior to Cunha’s.

Crucially, the £1.3m difference goes a long way in improving the rest of the team as well.

2) Heung Min Son (Ownership: 6.3%, Price: £9.9m)

FPL managers eyeing a triple up on the Arsenal defence can perhaps look at Heung Min Son as an intriguing alternative to Bukayo Saka.

Saka is probably a superior asset, but Son’s underlying data has been similar to Saka this season. Both have similar odds to score or assist this week, but Son has the home advantage and is likely to come up against a Fulham defence that will likely be missing the services of the injured Joachim Andersen.

If you own Son and are looking to swap to Saka, I’m not sure this is the best of weeks to do it.

3) Jurriën Timber (Ownership: 2.1%, Price: £5.5m)

Ben White’s injury has paved the way for Jurrien Timber to become an exciting FPL option. Even though red cards have skewed their stats, their defensive data in games without dismissals has been consistently strong.

Crucially, Arsenal are ranked in the top three teams for bookmakers’ clean sheet probability in six of the next seven Game weeks. After Gabriel, Timber is my second defender of choice in order of preference, he comes at a cheaper price than Saliba and has been taking up promising attacking positions in recent weeks.

He should be good for starts till at least the turn of the year, and is £0.5m cheaper than the rest of the Arsenal defenders. We saw evidence of that in Arsenal’s Champions League game in midweek, where Timber registered an assist v Sporting Lisbon.

He’s likely to hold his spot in the lineup at least for a couple of months and comes in at £0.5m less than other Arsenal defenders.
