Game Week 12: FPL Bois’ Captaincy Thread

The Bois are back after a well deserved break with another edition of their captaincy thread. With a few great candidates to choose from this week, click here to make sure you’ve got it all covered.

Salah – SOU (A)

Picking up things from where we left, King Mo Salah gets us off the mark with another appearance on the shortlist! He’s leading the charts for FPL points scored and has a chance to extend his lead further as he takes on Southampton who rank 19th for xG and have conceded 143 chances with the most (57) of them coming from Salah’s wing!

Here’s a recap of Salah’s dominance in the league – he ranks 2nd for goals scored, assists and xG, 7th for nPxG, 17th for xA, 1st for Penalty Area Touches, and 9th for Big Chances Created. This output has been immense in cementing Liverpool as one of the top attacks in the league who are now ranked 3rd for xG and 1st for Big Chances Created.

5 points clear at the top, Slot and his men would be itching to resume the season and carry the momentum with another solid win. Salah who is on a hot streak with FPL returns in four consecutive game weeks, has a phenomenal record against Southampton (7 goals and 4 assists in 11 games) and is likely to play a huge part again, making him a very strong candidate for this week’s captaincy!

Palmer – LEI (A)

After two quiet weeks, this is the week where Cole Palmer can dictate the play which could lead to a big FPL score, something that he’s not new to! Chelsea take on Leicester City who have been looking shaky in defence and have conceded 138 chances leading them to rank 18th for xGC!

Cole has been sensational so far contributing both with his finishing and creativity which can be backed up by his stats – he ranks 5th for goals scored, 3rd for assists, 6th for xG, 10th for nPxG, 10th for xA, and 2nd for Big Chances Created! Chelsea have vastly benefited from this as they’re now ranked 4th for xG and 7th for Big Chances Created, and could further improve after a game with a defence as weak as Leicester’s.

Palmer has had a great time against Leicester during his U-23 days scoring 5 goals and getting an assist in just 2 games, and he is now looking to take this heat to the senior level! Being the focal point of a strong attack coupled with penalty duties make Palmer an excellent contender for your team’s captaincy armband this week!

Haaland – TOT (H)

FPL wouldn’t truly be back if this man didn’t feature on the captaincy shortlist! There seems to be a lot of frustration amongst FPL managers around Haaland due to his exorbitant price and a relatively innocuous spell but this week he could go big against Tottenham and turn the tide on City’s run of losses. Ange’s high line tactics have been susceptible to vulnerabilities and have been Spurs concede most of their chances (30) through the middle which bodes well for Erling!

Haaland still holds strong on the charts – ranking 1st for goals scored, xG, and nPxG and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches. KDB’s return will also prove to be a big boost for Haaland and would further help City’s overall attacking play maintaining their 1st rank for xG.

Like many other teams, Haaland possesses a strong record against Tottenham too with 3 goals and 1 assist in 4 games. City are desperate for a win and would go all out attack to secure the three points which makes a strong case for captaining their talisman.
