Game Week 13: Injury Watch

Gabriel Magalhaes (£6.2m – DEF):

Gabriel was forced off against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday in the Champions League with muscle discomfort. Arteta spoke on the injury concern, stating ““We don’t know (if Gabriel is okay), because he said that he was feeling some discomfort… Wait and see… I can’t (give you more information). It’s not that I don’t want to.”

Arteta has been unreliable in his press conference injury updates this season, so without a clear and definitive answer, FPL managers would be playing the guessing game regardless. We would lean towards Gabriel being fit, as Arsenal players with small knocks have nearly always recovered to play in their next game this season and Gabriel coming off seemed more precautionary.

Estimated return: Gameweek 13 vs West Ham

Start, hold or replace: Start

Potential replacements: N/A

Malo Gusto (£4.9m – DEF):

With Reece James now out injured, Malo Gusto is in line to start at right-back for Chelsea. He has been dealing with an injury of some kind but is set to be available for Aston Villa this weekend. Enzo Maresco informed us ““Both have trained with us,” Maresca said. “We don’t take any risks for (Thursday’s) game, but I think both should be available for Sunday’s game.”

Estimated return: Gameweek 13 vs Aston Villa

Start, hold or replace: Start

Potential replacements: N/A

Eberechi Eze (£6.6m – MID):

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed Eze is set to return from his injury this weekend against Newcastle on Saturday. Glasner revealed “Ebere will be in the squad tomorrow, and Eddie Nketiah as well”, which is great for Palace’s prospects of victory and gives FPL managers one more high-quality Midfield option in Eze.

We would presume Eze starts the game, with maybe a planned substitution as Glasner spoke on needing to not overwork the returning players with a crammed schedule in December.

Estimated return: Gameweek 13 vs Newcastle

Start, hold or replace: Start

Potential replacements: N/A

Joachim Andersen (£4.3m – DEF):

Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed Andersen will miss Fulham’s next few Premier League games, after he was taken off in last weekend’s game with the issue. Silva said “Andersen is going to be out for the next few games” – little more need be said.

Estimated return: Gameweek 17 vs Southampton

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Hall (£4.4m), Kerkez (£4.4m) or Mazraoui (£4.6m)

Ibrahima Konate (£5.4m – DEF):

Konate is set to miss 5 to 6 weeks after suffering what seems to be a knee injury, likely an MCL sprain, against Real Madrid. Unfortunate for the centre back having a brilliant season, and he will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by Joe Gomez.

Estimated return: Gameweek 21 vs Nottingham Forest

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Ait-Nouri (£4.8m), Porro (£5.5m) or Timber (£5.5m)

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6.9m – DEF):

Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed the England right back is set to return to the starting lineup on Sunday, which is crucial given the fresh injuries to Konate and Bradley, along with Tsimikas being out 2-3 more weeks.

Estimated return: Gameweek 13 vs Man City

Start, hold or replace: Start

Potential replacements: N/A

Alisson Becker (£5.4m – GK):

Alisson has been back in training for a couple of weeks now, but is still not yet ready to start this weekend against Man City. Arne Slot revealed “He is back in training with goalkeeper coach and not training with the team, but that is expected soon. Let’s wait and see where he is in terms of match fitness, getting better and better but not ready.”

Would expect that Alisson would be back for Liverpool’s Gameweek 15 match next weekend.

Estimated return: Gameweek 15 vs Everton

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Onana (£5.1m) or Raya (£5.5m)

Jeremy Doku (£6.3m – MID):

Doku has been out for a string of games and is near returning but Guardiola confirmed that they will see what his status is during their Friday training session. Guardiola stated “We’ll see today. Today we will see”, which probably doesn’t bode well for Doku starting the game, so if anything, he will likely return the Man City’s bench or return in Gameweek 14 instead.

Estimated return: Gameweek 14 vs Nottingham Forest

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Rogers (£5.4m), Iwobi (£5.6m) or Mitoma (£6.4m)

John Stones (£5.3m – DEF):

Stones is in the same situation as Doku, having missed City’s midweek Champions League tie against Feyenoord. Pep gave the same quote on Stones – “We’ll see today. Today we will see”. Expect, similarly to Doku, Stones to likely miss this game or return to City’s bench in the best-case scenario.

Estimated return: Gameweek 14 vs Nottingham Forest

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Ait-Nouri (£4.8m), Porro (£5.5m) or Timber (£5.5m)

Morgan Gibbs White (£6.3m – MID):

Gibbs-White seems to be a game time decision for this weekends game. Forest manager Nuno informed the media “We still have tomorrow. We have to assess the players and see how they are… Let’s see how they are tomorrow to see if they can help the team.” After an extended absence, if Gibbs White does return to the matchday squad, it will likely be on the bench as Forest have a game against Man City midweek to think about.

Estimated return: Gameweek 14 vs Man City

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Rogers (£5.4m), Iwobi (£5.6m) or Mitoma (£6.4m)

Cristian Romero (£5.0m – DEF):

Romero looks set to miss his second consecutive game Ange Postecoglou confirmed. He said of Romero’s status “Romero unlikely but I’m not ruling him out… He’s got to get through a few things today and then there’s a session tomorrow.”

While Ange is not ruling him out, after keeping a clean sheet with Dragusin and Davies against Man City, Ange is likely to lean on them again.

Estimated return: Gameweek 14 vs Bournemouth

Start, hold or replace: Replace

Potential replacements: Hall (£4.4m), Kerkez (£4.4m) or Mazraoui (£4.6m)
