Game Week 10: FPL Bois’ Captaincy Thread

GW10 CAPTAINCY THREAD

With the bounce back that we were hoping for, seeing our candidates share 31 points amongst themselves in GW9, our record now stands at 31 correct picks in the last 37 GWs – an accuracy of 83.8% Let’s continue the trend by taking a look at the three candidates for this week’s captaincy who could help you get another green arrow:

Palmer – MUN (A)

Mr. consistent for Chelsea, Cole Palmer, was on the scoresheet once again as Chelsea beat Newcastle and closed in on the top 4. This week he holds on to his spot in the shortlist as he takes on Manchester United, who haven’t looked at their best defensively and rank 14th for xGC, and 16th for xGC at home, while conceding 86 chances in 9 games! United will likely play this game under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has very limited experience at the top level as a coach, which could prove to be a big advantage to Chelsea.

Palmer got his flowers for his performance in the previous season by being ranked 25th at the Ballon d’Or awards earlier this week, and he has started off this season strong in a bid to improve his ranking for next year. Palmer currently ranks 3rd for goals scored, 2nd for assists, 4th for xG, 6th for nPxG, 10th for xA, 2nd for Big Chances Created, numbers which have been significant in driving Chelsea to rank 3rd for xG and Big Chances Created.

The memories of his heroics against United are still fresh in our minds and he also scored in the away fixture which boosts his record to 4 goals in 3 games. Adding his penalty duties to the mix once again position him as a very strong candidate for your team’s captaincy in game week 10.

Salah – BHA (H)

Making his return to the list, is King Mo Salah! With 6 double digit hauls in 9 GWs, Salah is proving why he’s been the greatest FPL asset to own. This week we could see him in the double digits once again as he takes on a Brighton defence who rank 15th for xGC in away games and have conceded 78 chances, of which 29 have come from their left, which is where Salah operates.

Slot’s men have been playing some great football which is reflected by the stats, as Liverpool rank 4th for xG and 1st for Big Chances Created! Salah has been a key figure in this attack as he ranks 5th for goals scored, 2nd for assists, 3rd for xG, 9th for nPxG, 21st for xA, 6th for Big Chances Created, and 1st for Penalty Area Touches! BEAUTIFUL!

Salah also boasts of an excellent record against Brighton with 9 goals and 7 assists against them in 15 games! After their first draw of the season, Liverpool would be eager to climb back to the summit, and the fixture against Brighton gives them the perfect opportunity to do so, and for Salah to once again lead his team to glory, making him a strong contender for the armband!

Haaland – BOU (A)

The third spot was very closely fought among many great picks but Erling Haaland cleared the bar with a narrow margin! Back in the goals with the winner against Southampton, Erling has his eyes set on Bournemouth, which would be his first match after being named in the top 5 at the Ballon d’Or rankings. This looks like a tasty fixture for the Norwegian as Bournemouth have conceded 95 chances in 9 games, which are evenly spread across the pitch.

This means all the creative City players can engage in attacking play equally, equating in more chances for Haaland! City currently ranks 1st for xG and goals scored, and have created a whopping 147 chances in 9 games!! Haaland on an individual level is ranked 1st for goals scored, xG, nPxG, and 3rd for Penalty Area Touches.

Bournemouth have looked vulnerable at times this season and did crumble against Liverpool, losing 3-0, which is the only comparable team to City that they’ve played against. They also conceded the 5th most penalties in the previous season, which is a nice bonus for Haaland and further strengthens his case for your teams captaincy.
