Individual Analysis:

Position:

  • Left back

Role & Stats:

  • Kerkez is an all around excellent fullback who is good defensively, especially 1 on 1, as well as being a good dribbler and creative threat with his dynamic pace and crossing ability.
  • For Liverpool his already impressive attacking numbers will likely improve, playing around better players in a more possession dominant side that create more chances and score more goals than Bournemouth. Liverpool were 1st last season for goals, xG and Big Chances Created whereas Bournemouth were 8th, 5th and 9th respectively in those categories.
  • Kerkez’s 6 assists, 36 Chances Created and 8 Big Chances Created are good numbers for a fullback and will increase as Liverpool’s starting left back. Kerkez’s assist numbers could benefit massively from playing with better talent and having the likes of Salah, Gakpo, Diaz, Wirtz and potentially a new striker finishing off the chances he creates.
  • Kerkez averages 3.7 crosses per 90 with a high success rate on those crosses of 30.2%. Compared to some of the best left backs in Europe both of those numbers are impressive. Take Nuno Mendes for example, probably the best left back in the world, who is at 2.8 crosses per 90 at a 31.9% accuracy rate.
  • The Hungarian star fullback is only 21 years old and will almost certainly improve naturally. His growth as a player can only be helped by the fact he is now working under Arne Slot and his coaching staff and playing around better players.

Expected Minutes:

  • Guaranteed starter nearly every game and very unlikely to be substituted off in games before the 60th minute when his clean sheet points would kick in. Would expect the Hungarion to start 30+ league games at a minimum.
  • If Robertson does stay, I expect Robertson to start 6-8 Premier League games this season against some variation of the bottom 8 teams in the league. If Robertson leaves and Tsimikas stays as the backup LB, I expect Kerkez to start more games in that scenario than if Robertson stays and Tsimikas leaves.

FPL Position:

  • Premium Defender

FPL Analysis:

  • Kerkez is going to be one of the more expensive Defenders in FPL being the starting left back for the best team in the country.
  • His profile screams high ownership in FPL. He is a good defender playing for arguably the best defensive team in the league, while also being given the license to show off his talents as a creative threat in the final third, for the clear best attacking side in the country last season.
  • He will be in a tier with Ait-Nouri, Hall, Frimpong, Gabriel, Gvardiol, Lewis-Skelly and the likes as those premium defensive assets on the best teams in the country, who provide an elite ceiling due to their attacking output as well as playing for the best defensive teams in the league.
  • Robertson did take corners and free kicks for Liverpool in crossing situations when they wanted a left footer, so this could become a role Kerkez takes up and would be valuable from an FPL standpoint.

Team Impact:

  • Kerkez is a better defender than Robertson at this stage of his career. He won 26 tackles last season compared to Robertson’s 22. He won 152 duels with a success rate of 54% compared to 61 for Robertson at 48%. He won 28 aerial duels compared to 7. He had 53 interceptions & blocks and 169 recoveries compared to 23 and 105 respectively for Robertson.
  • Liverpool’s defence will clearly be improved this season due to Kerkez’s addition. The defensive improvement he is over Robertson, as well as adding Frimpong’s recovery pace over what Trent offered as a defensive player, should lead to more clean sheets for Liverpool.
  • From an attacking standpoint I also think Kerkez improves Liverpool. He is a faster, stronger player than Robertson at this point in his career and is great at crossing. He had 6 assists last season playing for Bournemouth while Robertson only managed 1 playing for the best attacking team in the Premier League. He is also a better dribbler than Robertson in 1 on 1 situations.

FPL Price Range Prediction:

  • £5.5m-£6.0m

CS and G/A Prediction:

  • 13 clean sheets

  • 3 goals

  • 7 assists
