Transfer Overview:

Tranfer Fee:
£62.5 million.
Contract Length:
5 years. Contract runs until 2030.
Wage:
£200,000 per week plus likely goal, assist and trophy bonuses.
Individual Analysis:
Position:
Left sided 10 in Amorim’s system. Could also feature as the striker at times.
Role & Stats:
Cunha was the focal point for Wolves last season and took on a massive load when it came to goal threat and chance creation. Little will change at United, as they are desperate for a player of Cunha’s profile and ability, and playing that left sided 10 role should give him the freedom to make that left side of the final third his own. He should be United’s focal point in the final third.
He scored 15 goals last season which was tied with Cole Palmer for the 8th most in the Premier League.
He was 29th in the league for xG last season with 8.63, which shows he massively outperformed his xG. Outperforming your xG is not a sticky statistic, but does indicate high level finishing ability. Now that Cunha is playing in a team that creates more chances, with United creating 9 more xG than Wolves last season, his goal numbers could certainly increase given he is likely to get more chances and better quality chances.
Cunha had 6 assists last season. He created 5.3 xA last season which was 22nd in the league, and 13 Big Chances which was 19th in the league. He is 80th percentile for shot creating actions for attacking midfielders/wingers. He is a top creative player in the final third and those numbers should increase playing in a more possession dominant side, with better players around him.
Expected Minutes:
Guaranteed starter for nearly every Premier League game. With United without European football next season, it is possible Cunha starts all 38 Premier League games health permitting.
FPL Position:
Premium Forward
FPL Analysis:
Cunha is going to be a Premium Forward, given his performance last season and now joining a United team that should be better this season (almost impossible not to be I know). He will be given a better platform to display his attacking brilliance in a superior attacking side with better attacking players around him. Cunha could improve upon last seasons FPL points tally.
He did take corners and free kicks for Wolves last season, and outside of Bruno Fernandes, no one in United’s starting XI would be a better option for taking set pieces, including penalties, than the Brazilian.
Cunha will likely be one of the higher owned Forwards in FPL once again as he may increase his output while still starting the season in a sweet spot price wise. He will be priced significantly below the most expensive Premium Forwards such as Haaland and Isak and right in line with the likes of Wood, Havertz, Watkins and Mateta, while very likely being the best value for money in that tier of Forwards.
Team Impact:
Cunha is going to raise United’s attacking levels by bringing his elite level finishing and chance creation. He’ll be a perfect partner to United’s new striker, whoever that ends up being, along with Amad/Bruno/Zirkzee playing that right sided 10 role in Amorim’s system.
Cunha’s signing will almost definitely mean less minutes for Zirkzee and Mount. His signing could also mean Fernandes plays deeper alongside Ugarte, as he did for some of last season, which would make Fernandes a much less attractive option in FPL at his likely price-tag.
