We bring you our preview, predicted lineups, odds and a mega value bet builder for Thursday’s friendly between England and Wales.
Tonight’s friendly match taking place at Wembley between England and Wales will be the 105th official meeting between the two British nations. Their last meeting took place all the way back in the group stages of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the three Lions coming out on top 3-0 that day.
England have a good record under Thomas Tuchel through his first 6 games in charge despite some awful shouts in the media that he is not a good coach, doesn’t understand the importance of the job or that England should have an English coach. Under Tuchel England have 5 wins and the sole loss was to Senegal in a friendly. Since that loss to Senegal in June, England have played two world cup Qualifiers vs Andorra and Serbia, winning 2-0 and 0-5 respectively. This friendly precedes England’s World Cup qualifying game against Latvia next Tuesday which is their final game of this international break.
England have won their last 7 games over Wales in all competitions and will look to continue that streak. Captain and all-time leading goalscorer Harry Kane suffered an ankle injury in training and is a major doubt for this game, and there is no reason for Tuchel to risk his long-term fitness in a somewhat meaningless friendly. Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are among other major names who will miss this game; neither made the national team squad for this international break.
Wales also had a very positive start under new coach and Wales legend Craig Bellamy, going unbeaten through his first 9 games, but since then things haven’t gone as smoothly. Over their recent games, Wales have notched a 1-0 win over Kazakhstan, and lost to Belgium 4-3 in World Cup Qualifiers, and also lost 1-0 to Canada in a friendly. Bellamy will of course be looking to end England’s 7 game winning streak in this fixture, but will have to do so without veteran Aaron Ramsey who has pulled out of the squad due to injury.
