The Best FPL Gameweek 38 Captains

The final week of the season is finally here. It’s been an emotional one guys. With Arsenal already wrapping up the league, it has thrown a lot of confusion and doubt around minutes into the air.

Most people own 3 Arsenal and 3 City. Though predicting exactly which ones will start now is a whole different kettle of fish.

Nonetheless, there are still some teams with things to play for and some great captaincy options, so there are still some more than solid captaincy options.

If you are still just that 1 spot behind in your mini league, then make sure you check out our Gameweek 38 Differentials piece.

And as always, make sure you check in with our Predicted Line Ups and Team News Hub before locking in any changes. Also, make sure you check in with our FPL stats page for interesting insights on how to attack the template EO’s and whose due.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s get stuck into the best Gameweek 38 Captains.

Bruno Fernandes vs BHA (A)

If this man is anything, it is inevitable. Unlike a lot of players, given Bruno is in the pursuit of history, we can expect him to start United’s final game of the season. He is now level with Henry in 2002/03 and De Bruyne in 2019/20 on 20. But with 1 game left, Bruno has the chance to standalone as the Premier League single season assist record holder. A possibility which surely keeps him on the pitch for 90 minutes.

Not only will this guarantee his minutes on the pitch, but it should also really help his case on it, as United players will no doubt be looking to get him the ball even more than usual.

Kroupi Jr vs NFO (A)

Kroupi Jr has been on an absolute tear lately, and like a few of the others on this list, still has everything to play for. If Liverpool win and Aston Villa lose, then 6th place in the Premier League will be playing Champions League football next season.

But with Brighton only 3 points behind, and with a superior goal difference, Bournemouth will at minimum have to not lose to be in with a chance. This prospect alone should ensure that Kroupi starts their final game of the season.

Kroupi has now scored 5 goals in his last 7 games at a rate of 0.75 xGI per 90. So the chances are coming thick and fast for the young Frenchman. We could easily see this run extended against a Nottingham Forest team with nothing to play for and starting defenders Aina and Murillo out.

Jarrod Bowen vs LEE (H)

Another man we can be very sure won’t be rotated is West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen. Spurs’s loss to Chelsea means a West Ham win and Spurs loss would see Spurs go down. Which is more than enough to justify a Bowen armband.

Leeds are also hampered with injuries at present, with Aaronson, Bogle, Buonanotte, Gudmundsson, Okafor, Stach, Struijk and Gruev all battling injuries. Even though they may have rotated anyway given they are on the beach, these injuries now guarantee West Ham will be playing a weakened Leeds side at minimum.

Will Osula vs FUL (A)

Since Guimaraes’s return to Newcastle starting line-up, they have suddenly remembered how to play football. Osula in particular. He now has 5 goals in his last 6 games and is looking as dangerous as anyone in the league right now. What’s even more impressive is, over the last 6 games, Osula has also been averaging an xGI per 90 of 0.82. So not only is he finishing well, but he is also receiving tons of service.

Not only that, but Newcastle have shattered the nothing to play for myth surrounding them, with 2 big wins against Brighton and West Ham teams who had everything to play for. Because if Newcastle didn’t need any more motivation, not only would finishing on a win secure support for Eddie Howe, but Newcastle could also finish above rivals Sunderland. A feat which would mean so much to the fans.

Fulham not only have nothing to play for but are winless in their last 3 and have conceded 5. Osula could be a great outside shout.

Cole Palmer/ Joao Pedro vs SUN (A)

If you really wanted to take a fly and still have one of these 2 hanging around your team then they could also be a solid outside shout. Chelsea will be desperately wanting to make Europa League at minimum over the Conference League, and a result against Sunderland could just secure that.

Joao Pedro will also have a point to prove given he was left out of the Brazil squad and Delap looked abysmal in his absence. It is worth mentioning this is a big outside shot and Joao Pedro’s minutes aren’t even secure. So just factor that in as risk if you do go down this route.
