The Best FPL Gameweek 31 Captains

Who is the best FPL captain for GW31? With Man City and Arsenal blanking, we reveal the top picks to trust with the armband this week.

The Best FPL Gameweek 31 Captains

With some of the usual suspects missing from this week’s captaincy options, we must again look elsewhere for some armband inspiration. However, given his recent consistency and ownership percentage, is there a new Haaland on the block?

Anyway, without further ado let’s get stuck into the Best Gameweek 31 Captains.

Bruno Fernandes vs BOU (A)

There is simply no slowing this man down right now. He is arguably the best player in the league right now and is showing a remarkable display of consistency as far as returns go. Since his return in GW21, his points tallies have been as follows: 7, 10, 5, 10, 10, 2, 2, 13, 8, 10. With 5 double digit returns and only 2 blanks he truly is Mr Reliable right now.

It’s all very sustainable as well, given he has a 0.7 xGI per 90 and is involved in nearly everything they do and, on every set-piece. His DefCons, while not hitting the threshold have both been 9+ in his last 2 as well which shows the potential is still there. What an asset.

Bournemouth have also conceded the 6th most goals this season, only 1 less than Spurs. They tend to throw caution to the wind and have been involved in many high scoring affairs this season, much like Man United. It’s no surprise this return fixture was 4-4 earlier in the season. We’re expecting another high scoring shoot out as 2 great attacks take on 2 average defences.

He also does not need to worry about any rest or rotation following European fixtures.

Harry Wilson vs BUR (H)

Another fantastic option this week is non-other than the Welsh wizard himself Harry Wilson, and indeed Jimenez if you own him. Even though Wilson has just returned from injury and didn’t return against Forest, he was still plenty involved in the attack and on another day could’ve easily come out with a return.

Alos, much like Fernandes, he is facing off against what had been a box office fixture in the return match. Fulham won 3-2 and Wilson came out with a goal and 2 assists. Considering Burnley have not much to play for and Fulham still have an outside shot at European football; this could have multiple returns in it for Wilson.

Joao Pedro vs EVE (A)

It’s going to take more than one blank against Newcastle to dampen this man’s return prospects. Despite conceding the 4th least goals in the league this season, Everton actually sit in the bottom half for xGA. They are giving up the chances; teams just haven’t been as clinical.

One man who has been clinical however has been Joao Pedro. With 8 goals and 6 assists in his last 9 games, it’s fair to say the Brazilian is THE inform player in the league right now. Even with the Newcastle result, he is still averaging an xGI per 90 of 1.2, which is by far the highest in the league.

Everton’s home form has also been far worse than their away form this season, with 1 win (against Burnley), 2 draws and 4 losses in their last 7 home games.

Anthony Gordon vs SUN (H)

Oh no he didn’t. Oh yes, he did. Gordon now has 8 goals and 1 assist in his last 9 starts in all competitions and is showing some signs of life in the attacking sense.

What’s even more significant has been Gordon’s move to the striker role of late, which has not only helped his returns but also has seen him receive far more chances. All of which bode well for FPL potential. The fact he is on pens also provides a nice insurance.

Perhaps even more importantly however, is the state of Sunderland’s defence. Sunderland are coming into the weekend’s fixture with only 1 win in their last 6 and 4 losses. Not the form you want to be taking into a derby match.

They are also suffering a severe defensive injury crisis with Roefs, Ballard, Mukiele, Enzo Le Fee and Reinildo all battling injuries. Newcastle are a different team when Livramento and Hall are both fit and will have revenge on their mind, this could get ugly.

This game would appear too important to rest Gordon for even with midweek football.
