The Best FPL Gameweek 30 Captains

Captaincy has been spicier as ever recently and Gameweek 30 is seeming like no exception. With Haaland even being sold, let alone captain, the door is wide open for some big swings and differential gains.

Hugo Ekitike vs TOT (H)

There is no 2 ways around it, Spurs might be the worst team in the league at the moment. They are winless since GW18 in the league and have conceded 2+ goals in their last 11 league games. Truly abysmal.

Fresh off a full rest from FA Cup duty, Ekitike will no doubt be hungry and ready to go against Spurs.  The Liverpool star already has 11 goals and 4 assists and Wolves aside, has also been a focal point of the Liverpool attack. To be honest this could be me up top against this Spurs team and I’d still be a good option. Captaining anyone against Spurs is always a good decision.

Joao Pedro vs NEW (H)

As a Newcastle fan I feel I am best positioned to comment on the quality of our team at the moment, and it is not good. Newcastle have conceded 16 goals in their last 7 league games, an average of 2.3 per game, and honestly, that is showing no signs of change.

On the other side of the coin, Joao Pedro now has 8 goals and 6 assists in his last 8 games… Truly astonishing numbers. These are hardly flukes either, as he is averaging 0.9 xGI per 90 over that stretch. The most in the league by far. In fact Joao Pedro now has 16 goals and assists in 2026. 2nd most in all of Europe after only Harry Kane, and miles ahead of the 2nd highest in the Prem, Bruno Fernandes on 10. It is so hard to split him and Ekitike this week but chances are you have one or the other so shouldn’t be too difficult.

Virgil Van Dijk vs TOT (H)

If you’re sensing a bit of a theme here it’s because there is one. I honestly prefer VVD to any other Liverpool attacker. He has been absolutely killing it recently in the FPL sense. His most recent points tallies have been: 1, 7, 11, 17, 0, 4, 9. In his last 7 he has achieved, 3 goals, 1 assist, 2 clean sheets, 5 bonus points and is averaging 9.6 Defcons per game.

He has so many routes to points that a fixture like Spurs, where he could get points on either end seems ideal for captaincy consideration.

Antoine Semenyo vs WHU (A)

At this point I think it’s safe to say Semenyo’s inclusion into the City line-up has had an adverse effect on Haaland’s output. Haaland has also been wrestling with a knock recently so who knows if that has something to do with it. Either way, Semenyo has been on absolute fire at the Etihad since making the switch. He now has 15 goals and 6 assists in the league and is showing absolutely 0 signs of slowing down. West Ham have recently passed Wolves and now sit 2nd highest for both goals conceded and xGA. Their 3 clean sheets in their last 5 are the only reason Semenyo finds himself below the Liverpool pair in the captaincy stakes.

Bruno Fernandes vs AVL (H)

With back-to-back losses to Wolves and Chelsea, it’s safe to say Villa are also a team struggling for form. They have also conceded 6 goals in those 2 games. Which is the total amount of goals they conceded in the 8 games before that. There is no better time to play Villa as a result.

On the flip side, Bruno is arguably in the form of his life. The loss to Newcastle proving their only loss in the last 11 games. Even in the loss, Bruno was as involved as ever and his role in United’s attack seemed as potent as ever. This is the sort of result that you do not read into too much if you are the owner of United attackers. He was still able to amass an xGI of 1.28 and put in some fantastic balls, especially for the equalizer.

A further silver lining was the return of his Defcons to double digits. So who knows, maybe that avenue is re-opened.

Erling Haaland vs WHU (A)

I mean, he’s still Erling Haaland. We’re not just going to leave him off here altogether. City are still chasing the league title and Haaland will still have a big part to play. Chances will no doubt fall his way and for all the reasons above in terms of West Ham, he is still a more than solid captaincy option.
