The Best FPL Gameweek 23 Captains

Anyone else fed up with Haaland blanking? Well tough because he’s playing Wolves, so you probably have to captain him again.

If however, you’ve reached the end of the line with him and are looking elsewhere for captaincy then we’ve got you covered. However, I cannot in good faith say that its wise to bet against him this week.

Before we get started, make sure you check in with our Predicted Line-Ups and Team News hub before locking in any changes.

Also, make sure you check out our Gameweek 23 differentials, or if you are on wildcard, our Best Gameweek 23 Wildcard draft.

Anyway, without further ado lets get started.

Erling Haaland vs WOL (H)

When the league’s highest scorer is playing against bottom of the table it makes it very hard to bet against him. One small thing to think about however, could be City’s inability to score against Man United and the fact that Wolves have only conceded 1 goal in their last 3 games. We won’t go into too much detail about why this probably remains the correct captaincy decision this week.

Antoine Semenyo vs WOL (H)

With no European games on his schedule, Semenyo appears set to play the large bulk of his minutes in the Premier League. He has enjoyed a hot start to life at the Etihad and has got himself into very dangerous positions. Many of City’s other stars like Foden, Haaland etc looked tired against Bodo Glimt and may face reduced minutes as a result. Given Semenyo’s projected minutes, goalscoring ability and fixture against bottom of the league, he could even be a better selection than Haaland for captaincy. There is not much separating them. Especially if you believe Haaland may face reduced minutes.

Hugo Ekitike vs BOU (A)

Ekitike owners were very unfortunate he did not return against Burnley. He now takes on a Bournemouth side who have no issue conceding goals and are aiming to outscore opponents rather than keep it tight. Over their last 6 games they have conceded on average 2.66 goals per game. Meaning a player of Ekitike’s calibre could be in a great position to capitalise. Everything about this game screams goal fest so I’m going to apologise in advance for jinxing it into a nil-nil draw.

Thiago vs NFO (H)

It’s going to take more than a nil-nil against Arsenal to deter me away from this recommendation, not least considering it is mind-boggling how Arsenal failed to score. Even with that result, Forest still sit bottom 6 for goals conceded and have the 3rd highest xGA in the league. Combine this with the fact that Brentford have been a top 5 attack so far, by both goals scored and xG, and this has all the makings of a Thiago haul. 10/15 of Arsenal’s attempts on goal came from the between the penalty spot to the 6 yard box, meaning Thiago should have ample opportunities.

Gabriel vs MUN (H)

Honestly why not at this point, Arsenal play such a suffocating brand of football that even high powered attacks like Man united can be stifled. Nonetheless, his point potential on both ends genuinely makes him a perpetual captaincy option, particularly at home.

Thierno Barry vs LEE (H)

Now this is the super differential option. Which is fine given a few people actually do own him. Barry has now scored in 3 of his last 4 games and takes on a very attacking Leeds side who only have 1 clean sheet in the league since GW3. Following on from a goal and impressive win against Villa, This fixture has fallen at the perfect time for Barry to build on his goalscoring form.
