The Best FPL Gameweek 17 Captains

I’m going to start this week’s captaincy suggestions with some honesty. If you have Haaland, it kinda has to be him. Nonetheless, we will still proceed with some of this week’s other great options, because the reality is, there are actually some great differential options this week.

So if you are a hipster, someone looking to rank up via a differential option or FPL Olympian, here are some of the other great options for captaincy this week.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s take a look at Gameweek 17’s best options for captaincy.

Erling Haaland vs WHU (H)

Let’s just get this one out of the way. City are absolutely flying at the moment and scoring for fun in the process. They now face a West Ham team who have conceded the 3rd most goals this season and the 2ndmost xGA. They are coming off a game where they conceded 3 to Villa, this could get really messy. If you still have your Triple Captain chip, this the time to activate it.

Phil Foden vs WHU (H)

With 7 returns in his last 4, Foden has been absolutely cooking during this City stretch. We already mentioned how poor West Ham’s defence has been this season, so the chances of Foden continuing his hot streak are pretty high. A great differential captaincy option this week.

Antoine Semenyo vs BUR (H)

This week is absolutely load with fantastic options. Despite being sold in droves, Semenyo remains the 5thhighest scoring player in the entirety of FPL. He now faces a Burnley side who have conceded the 2nd most goals this season and have the highest xGA in the league. A whole 5 more than 2nd place West Ham. A generationally bad defence. Semenyo also snapped his drought just in time.

Thiago vs WOL (A)

Another player who has been sold in droves is Thiago. If you are one of the 90k who sold Thiago this week ahead of playing the worst team in the league then you need to give your head a wobble. Wolves have conceded the most goals in the league this season and are showing no signs of improvement. Considering Thiago is still the Premier League’s second highest scorer, this also has potential for another huge haul.

Injury Watch: Thiago did miss the Bees midweek outing and is reported to have a knock so make sure you check the news beforehand to ensure he starts.

Bruno Fernandes v AVL (A)

At first glance you might think a fixture against Villa would not normally be ideal given the great form they’re in, and for a defender it absolutely isn’t. However, all the hallmarks and momentum lead towards this being an absolute bloodbath. Both United and Villa have scored 9 and conceded 6 across their last 3 games, without a single clean sheet between them. These high scoring games are where Bruno really has the chance to take off, given he is involved in the majority of United’s attacks. We expect a barn burner. Hammer the over 2.5.
