FPL Gameweek 14 Best Captains

Is it time to captain a defender? We break down the Best FPL Gameweek 14 Captains, analyzing the shift to defense while covering the usual attacking heavy hitters.

Right, that’s now 2 blanks in a row for Haaland, which means these recommendations may actually not be as pointless as before. During Gameweek 13’s Best FPL Captains, we mentioned that Thiago would be the best differential to challenge Haaland with, and if you were brave, you would’ve been rewarded (we didn’t).

Make sure before locking in any changes you check in with our Predicted Line-Ups Hub to ensure all players are still playing before giving them the armband.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s take a look at FPL Gameweek 14’s Best Captains.

Erling Haaland

Let’s just get this out the way. Even though he’s had 2 blanks in a row, its going to be really hard to against him this week considering they take on 15th place Fulham. Granted it is away however and Fulham do sit around mid-table for both xGA and GA despite their poor league position.

Daniel Munoz

Perhaps our favourite shout for captaincy this week outside of Haaland is Daniel Munoz. My love affair for this man is no secret at this point and his ability to pick up points on either end should be particularly effective against a team with a poor attack and defence. It is this fantastic floor which is why he gets the nod over Mateta.

Jean-Philippe Mateta

On this week’s edition of whose playing Burnley, the lucky nominee is none other than Jean-Philippe Mateta. Mateta’s penalty presence was felt in their last outing against Man United. With 7 goals already this season, Mateta now takes his excellent form into one of the best fixtures of the year, Burnley. If you were looking to go against Haaland, a Palace player is probably where we would lean.

Bruno Fernandes

Another fantastic captaincy shout this week is Bruno Fernandes. With an xGI per 90 of 0.6 and defensive contributions per game of 10.55, Bruno offers so many different routes to points. These always end up in bonus points as well as he now reaches 11 for the season. Fresh off a 2 assist game against Palace, Bruno now takes his great form into a fixture against struggling West Ham who have conceded the 3rd most goals this season and the 2nd highest xGA.

Bryan Mbeumo

For pretty similar reasons to Bruno, Mbeumo also finds himself in an excellent position to return. In truth he could’ve very easily scored against Palace so we will not read to deep into his recent 2 blanks. He remains a fantastic option. Bruno just has the safe floor at the moment.

Honourable Mention: Joao Pedro but risky minutes and role.
