Sports Interactive Continues ‘Behind the Scenes’ Work on Match Engine Ahead of New Update

Football Manager 26 developer Sports Interactive has revealed the team is ‘working behind the scenes’ to address Match Day issues. It comes as the London-based developer is set to roll out yet another hotfix, just days after the previous patch, which it says will bring ‘more than 200’ changes and improvements to the troubled game.

SI postpone new patch due to performance issue

Sports Illustrated have made the decision to postpone patch update 26.0.06 that was supposed to be rolled out today (19th Nov) on the Steam Public Beta Track due to a knock on performance issue discovered during the making of the new build set. Disappointing from SI once again!

“Tomorrow (19th November) will see the next Football Manager 26 game update rolled out via the Steam Public Beta Track. Following successful testing, this will then be made available in full on Steam, Epic, and Microsoft Stores later this week.”

Sports Interactive’s announcement yesterday comes with the additional promise that they will be continuing to fix and develop the Match Engine ‘behind the scenes’ and stated we can expect an update on that area ‘Later this week’. You can view the full SI update on their Forum for more details.

One of the most‐pressing issues for the community has been spiking player demands — especially after promotions or major successes — which frustrated many managers. Sports Interactive has confirmed that this element is being adjusted. Alongside that, the patch improves performance settings and updates how European coefficient points are awarded.

What FM26 Update 26.0.6 will include:

  • Tweaks to player wage and contract demands, reducing the scale of unexpected surges.

  • New option to set an FPS limit within Preferences, offering more control over performance.

  • Changes to how European competition coefficient points are awarded, refining the continental competition flow.

  • Over 200 smaller bug-fixes and quality-of-life tweaks across UI, match stability and club management systems.

While this is only a snippet of what we can expect from 26.0.6 — Sports Interactive promises ‘a full change list upon release’ — this patch signals a clear commitment to addressing the in game administrative issues and broader managerial simulation. Once the update becomes available, players are encouraged to load their games, check for any new behaviours around contracts and performance, and report any lingering issues so the team can continue refining.
