The recent head-to-head between the two best teams in the country since the 17-18 season has been very close. There have been some of the best games in Premier League history when we are talking standard of the football between the peak Klopp and Pep teams – they were always thrilling games. Slot then won his first two games against Manchester City last season, both 2-0’s on the way to comfortably winning the Premier League. Liverpool do overall have the better record in their last 5 meetings with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 City victory – although the City win was a 4-1 thrashing which slightly evens it out.

Reijnders did not start against Bournemouth, Silva started in his place but this could have just been natural and needed rotation. I believe he starts on Sunday.
Cherki has been excellent of late, creating moments of magic and chances for Haaland and notching 2 assists vs Bournemouth. However his tendency to walk out of possession along with his lack of pace and power might make him the odd man out for a game against Liverpool. Savinho would likely start in his place.
Kovacic: Heel surgery likely to keep him out until February.
Rodri: Returned and got his first minutes off the bench against Bournemouth in GW10. Good chance of starting.
Cherki: Been in fine form lately but his lack of pace and power and work out of possession might mean he does not start against Liverpool.
Savinho: If Cherki does not start RW, Savinho likely does.
Reijnders: No longer a guaranteed starter as he was the first 9 GW’s. Rodri’s return as well as Bernardo and Nico Gonzalez being limit his minutes.
Gonzalez: Could start but if Rodri is fit enough he will start.

Liverpool have regained some form and confidence over the last couple of weeks with good performances and wins over Aston Villa in the league and Frankfurt and Real Madrid in the Champions League. Slot has reverted back to last season’s system and principles in order to simplify things and get the best out of his players as they build confidence and chemistry.
Alisson has still not returned to team training and was not a part of the squad for the Real Madrid game on Tuesday. Mamardashvili will continue to start.
Curtis Jones returned to team training this week and featured off the bench against Real Madrid. He certainly could start and his performances this season have deserved it but Mac Allister is favoured and has found some form and looks fitter. Mac Allister likely starts alongside Gravenberch.
Arne Slot speaking to the media on Friday revealed that “Jeremie Frimpong is not in a good place, he won’t play today, tomorrow or next week. Hamstring injuries take a while”. That was to be expected and Frimpong was not a major factor in starting games at the moment as Liverpool find the right balance in their starting lineup to get the best out of their star players.
Robertson has been very good over recent games and the team has looked much better with him in than Kerkez. His ability to progress the ball forward with passing, even simple ones, as well as his experience and cool head has made a big difference.
Wirtz vs Gakpo for the LW spot is one to watch. Wirtz was excellent there but Gakpo scored in this fixture last season and was rested maybe in order to have him fresh to start this game. Ekitike will of course be the starting striker while Isak is out.
Isak: Will not start Sunday but could feature on the bench.
Alisson: Still out. Not training yet.
Frimpong: Facing an extended period out with a hamstring injury.
Mac Allister: Looks like his old self over recent games and should start.
Jones: Picked up a knock against Brentford but has returned to training and made a cameo against Real Madrid.
Wirtz: Played very well at LW against Madrid. Could be his position for this season moving forward.
