The FPL Bois are back again to bring us their best Gameweek 7 FPL captaincy picks! The Bois’ never let us down and as well as their 2 favourite captaincy picks, they also select their favourite differential captaincy pick for any brave managers out there!
We’ve just seen how explosive of a week a great captaincy (or triple captaincy wink) decision can lead to and now to carry this momentum into the second international break of the season we highlight three candidates who could haul big this Gameweek:
Man of the moment, Erling Haaland, helps us kick things off this week as he continued his red hot streak of scoring goals with a late late brace against Burnley in Gameweek 6. He now is gearing up to face a Brentford defence that ranks 17th for xGC and has conceded 11 goals in 6 games (3rd most) despite facing attacks that are relatively very weak when compared to Man City’s.
Haaland now has twelve games from his last six and is showing no signs of slowing down, proving why he’s the ultimate premium asset to own for FPL managers. He ranks 1st for goals scored widening the gap even more, 1st for xG, 1st for nPxG, 3rd for Big Chances Created (Yes really!), and 2nd for Penalty Area Touches. With another masterful performance against Burnley, the City attack looks even more potent and now ranks 1st for goals scored, 2nd for xG, and 2nd for Big Chances Created Pep’s men would be looking for a similar result again and heading into the break closer to the league leaders.
Haaland has three goals and an assist against Brentford from five matches including a brace the scored last season in City’s win at the Etihad. With the form that he’s in, Erling would be eager to step on to the pitch and have his name on the scoresheet again leading City to a commanding win. The support from his creative midfield engines, his sublime finishing and inevitability, paired with penalty kick duties make him a very strong candidate for this Gameweek’s captaincy.
One star striker follows another as we see Victor Gyokeres make his debut on the shortlist with him preparing to take on a West Ham side that has been looking very vulnerable in defence yet again this season, ranking 14th for xGC but having conceded the most number of goals in the league (14 in 6 games!), keeping only one clean sheet in this period. This fixture comes at the right time for Arsenal as they would look to carry the momentum of a late win against Newcastle and put on a performance similar to the 5-2 we saw last season.
Gyokeres is still new and finding his feet in the league, having made it onto the scoresheet in two games out of six, he has been showing good attacking instinct which is reflected by his underlying stats. He ranks 5th for goals scored, 9th for xG, 13th for nPxG, and 4th for Penalty Area Touches, and this could be the fixture where these data points translate into goals and FPL points for him. Arsenal have been looking solid in attack despite what some would say their over reliance on set pieces, they rank 2nd for goals scored, 6th for xG, and 4th for Big Chances Created with these numbers expected to go up after this fixture.
West Ham have always shown signs of weakness against strikers and Gyokeres has the quality to take advantage of such situations. In addition to the Arsenal wingers and midfielders feeding him chances, he also shares penalty duties (at the very least) which help push his ceiling further up making him a strong contender for the armband this Gameweek!
This gameweek’s differential choice is someone who FPL managers have been adoring for his performances – Ismaila Sarr! He’s a crucial part of Glasner’s attacking system that will be up against Everton this Gameweek, who are a defence that rank 11th for xGC. He has three goals in his last four games and be on the lookout to pounce on any mistakes that the Everton backline makes.
Sarr ranks 5th for goals scored, 7th for xG, and 3rd for nPxG and among Midfielders ranks 1st for goals scored, 1st for xG, 1st for Big Chances Created, and 2nd for PL points scored contributing significantly to the Crystal Palace attack which is ranked 8th for goals scored, 2nd for xG, and 1st for Big Chances Created. With the solid start that Palace have had to the season and beating league leaders Liverpool in the previous Gameweek, they’ll want to continue this form and head into the international break with another win continuing their unbeaten run this season.
His low ownership coupled with the potential of a big haul makes Sarr stand out as an excellent differential candidate for captaincy as he could be a big boost for someone willing to take the risk betting against the majority.
