Fresh off a goal midweek vs Southampton. Alexander Isak is in excellent form, recently transferring to Liverpool from Newcastle and scoring in his debut for the new club. His previous season was his most productive in the Premier League, where he scored 23 goals.
He registered a high number of shots on target (46) and had numerous touches in the opposition box, indicating significant involvement in attacking play last season. Isak has had 1.95 xg vs Palace in the past who are good at the back but just might get caught with the quality of Liverpool. So historically, while he hasn’t dominated against Palace, he’s had meaningful involvement and created chances.
Given his ability to generate shots and chances, Isak is likely to see opportunities versus Palace’s defence. Given Liverpool’s strong record historically and likely control in this game, Isak will be more effective if the team as a whole dominates possession, supplies him good service, and exposes Palace’s weaknesses.
Isak is also a bit taller than the palace centre backs giving him aerial advantages over this home side. Liverpool will look to make many crosses with their wide players. The Ekitike suspension means Isak will be expected to play the majority of this match while he gets back to full Fitness. His overall Premier League record is impressive, consistently outperforming expected goals and averaging better than a goal every two games across recent seasons. Palace are defensively organized but concede around 1.2 xG per match, suggesting opportunities will arise if Liverpool dominate possession.
While Isak may not yet be fit enough for a full 90 minutes, his movement, finishing quality, and the service from teammates like Salah and Wirtz make him a strong candidate to have a tangible impact this weekend.
With Isak’s strong goalscoring record, presence at the spearhead of Liverpool’s attack and great projected minutes, 11/8 offers fantastic value for an anytime goalscorer.
