Gameweek 4 saw another points-filled weekend with players like Haaland, Zubimendi, and Van de Ven scoring big. We’ll look at the most pressing FPL buy, sell or hold dilemmas ahead of Gameweek 5. Who to buy, who to sell, and who to hold for GW5.

FPL Buy, Sell or Hold – Gameweek 5

Ollie Watkins:

Aston Villa and Ollie Watkins have had a truly terrible start to the season as Villa have failed to score in their first 4 games. This has left plenty of Watkins owners frustrated and wanting to sell the forward ahead of Gameweek 5. Whilst I wouldn’t blame people for wanting to sell the Englishman, I’m not sure that now is the right time. Firstly, because Villa play Sunderland in Gameweek 5, but also because the best replacement for Watkins, Gyökeres, plays Man City this week. Therefore, I would hold Watkins this week, and if he still hasn’t delivered, sell him next week.

Conclusion: Hold

Mohammed Kudus:

Mohammed Kudus has blanked in the last 3 Gameweeks when Spurs have scored a total of 5 goals. However, I don’t think this is a reason to sell the former West Ham winger. Firstly, the fixtures for Spurs are great as they play Wolves and Leeds in their next 3. Also, he is the only Spurs attacker to have started every game this season, and he’s played at least 80 minutes in all 4. Therefore, I see no reason to sell Kudus this week.

Conclusion: Hold

Brennan Johnson:

On the other hand, Brennan Johnson’s minutes haven’t been great in the last couple of games. He came off in the 53rd minute against Bournemouth, and he didn’t start against West Ham in Gameweek 4. It seems that when things aren’t going to plan, he is the first player to be taken out of the attack. Even though the fixtures look good for Spurs, I don’t think we can trust Johnson’s minutes so I would sell him.

Conclusion: Sell

Moisés Caicedo:

Moisés Caicedo registered his second goal of the season against Brentford at the weekend. He also hit the defensive contributions threshold for the third time this season with 17 defensive contributions in Gameweek 4. In Gameweek 3 against Fulham, he managed 23 defensive contributions, which is considerably higher than the threshold.I wouldn’t expect him to keep scoring at this rate, but we saw from last season’s numbers that he will consistently pick up DEFCON points, so I think he’s a great budget midfielder at just £5.5m

Conclusion: Buy

Chris Wood:

Over 150,000 FPL managers have already sold Chris Wood ahead of Gameweek 5 after he has blanked in the last 3 games. Something that we’ve seen this season is that he’s no longer the 90-minute man that he became last year. This is due to Nottingham Forest’s impressive summer transfer window, where they bolstered their squad with additional forward options. This was expected given that they will be playing in Europe this season so need a deeper squad. Despite the minutes issues, I wouldn’t be selling Wood this week with Burnley and Sunderland up next for Forest.
