Wieffer was not quite fit enough to make the squad for the GW4 loss to Bournemouth but should be fit and ready to go for Tottenham in GW5. Fellow midfielder Jack Hinshelwood suffered what is thought to be a serious injury against Bournemouth. Hurzeler stated “I think it is (serious). I’m not a doctor, so we have to wait for the scan”. Terrible news for Hinshelwood and Brighton as they hope for the best awaiting the scan results. Ayari will replace Hinshelwood in the starting lineup and Baleba will join him.
De Cuyper left last weekends game in the first half with an injury after being pushed in to the advertising board. It did not seem overly serious but he did
Hinshelwood vs Ayari for who partners Baleba in midfield will likely be difficult to guess all season long because it will be based on matchups and their fitness. Hinshelwood returned from injury in GW3 and started, so I lean Hinshelwood for now.
Rutter returned to the squad after an injury kept him out the previous week, and made a cameo off the bench. I think he now returns to the starting XI in GW4 replacing Welbeck. Rutter started as the striker in GW1. Especially as Hurzeler spoke about playing Bournemouth, stating They are a very difficult side to play against. There will be moments when we will suffer and will need to show resilience.” Rutter provides more running power and legs off the ball than Welbeck.
O’Riley who started the first 2 games has joined Marseille on loan. A strange one, given again, he started the first 2 games. Hurzeler speaking on the O’Riley, stated “We have a lot of competition in the midfield positions, and while we see Matt’s long-term future here with us, this gives him the potential of more game time”.

Thomas Frank, speaking on Friday informed the media “Everyone is fine. Everyone returned well. Everyone is in a good place. Dom (Solanke) won’t be available still. I don’t expect it to be too long but he won’t be available for this game.” No new injury news coming out of the international break outside of Solanke, but he was not a major factor so far this season anyway.
Simons started and played quite well in GW4. He will almost certainly start against Brighton this weekend.
Kolo Muani had the international break to train with his new coaches as he was not called up to the France National Team squad but clearly needs more time to gain match fitness. He is probably set to be Richarlison and maybe even Tel’s understudy for the next few weeks as he ramps up his fitness, but he will become Tottenham’s starting striker at some point this season.
Despite Udogie’s return to fitness I believe Spence is the starting left-back as things stand. He is an excellent full-back and has been in great form for over a year now. Udogie will likely have to displace Spence who got his first call up to the England squad.
As I believed going in to last weekends game, Frank found out against Bournemouth that the Palhinha and Bentancur double pivot with Sarr is a midfield whose strengths are out of possession rather than in possession, and Bergvall in for Bentancur fixes that. Frank did exactly that, going with a midfield 3 of Palhinha, Bergvall and Sarr. He will likely play the same midfield this weekend, with Bentancur starting in Palhinha’s place against Villarreal midweek in the Champions League. Spurs midfield options are limited with Kulusevski and Maddison injured.
