Another year of FPL, means another year of going budget enabler hunting. A great place to start being Brad Mayor’s budget gems article. Budget enablers have always been a staple of every good fantasy team, and identifying them early, can really give you a great head start.

Now in general, it’s fair to say we’ve seen the team over at FPL raise their prices significantly across the board. This in theory should result in a multitude of different templates and strategies, as including all the top players becomes nigh on impossible.

With that said, should you need a 5th midfielder at the £4.5m mark, why not try and extract some extra value from the spot. So without further ado, we highlight the best options available at the £4.5m midfielder spot.

1. LEWIS MILEY – NEWCASTLE UNITED

Now as a Newcastle fan myself, I feel pretty confident in personally vouching for this one. It wasn’t too long ago that Miley was holding down the starting spot next to Bruno during one of our most injury ridden seasons. Not only did he impress when playing, he also found himself in the goals and assists column, registering a goal and 3 assists in the premier league across his 17 appearances, as well as a champions league assist.

Even though last season saw a natural reduction in minutes, the youngster was still able to log 14 premier league appearances and even a goal. The upside for Miley moving forward however,  is the lack of competition he faces for minutes amongst Newcastle’s bench. With Longstaff joining Leeds and Willock’s position and future looking uncertain, Miley profiles as the current back up should any of the main 3 go down.

Now even though Newcastle will likely dip back into the market for another central midfielder, with Newcastle running a midfield 3, there should be plenty of opportunity for Miley to see the pitch. Not least considering Howe described him as ‘Absolutely pivotal to our future’.

2. AARON RAMSEY – BURNLEY

Aaron Ramsey profiles as an intriguing option at the £4.5m range. Unlike Miley, Ramsey is an actual winger, and one who has shown a capability to generate returns in the championship. With 8 goals and 4 assists across 29 games for Norwich and Middlesbrough in 2022/23 season, Ramsey had put together a very solid championship campaign.

His efforts led to him securing a move to Burnley in the premier league, where he racked up 14 appearances for the clarets. This was until February 2024 when his campaign was cut short by a ‘Very Serious’ knee injury, which then kept him out for around a year. Only logging 6 minutes in Burnley’s penultimate game of their promotion campaign an entire season later.

With his solid stock as an England youth international, proven attacking pedigree in the championship and now completely healthy body, there is definitely a world where Ramsey can carve out a meaningful role on freshly promoted Burnley team.

3. Andy Irving – West Ham

The final potential £4.5m FPL midfielder is West Ham’s Andy Irving. Following a fantastic Austrian League campaign back in the 2023/24 season where he racked up 9 goals and 4 assists for Klagenfurt. This led to him being recalled to Hammers bench for the 2024/25 season, where during his limited minutes across 10 appearances he was still able to impress.

When Edson Alvarez was injured ahead of the Chelsea fixture, Irving was able to secure his first premier league start against non other than Chelsea. Despite a close 2-1 loss Irving still put in a solid performance and was West Ham’s 2nd highest rated player after goal scorer Bowen on SofaScore.

What’s even more encouraging for Irving’s chances, has been his start to the 2025/26 pre-season. He featured amongst the starters for their pre-season friendly against Grasshopper Zurich and even opened the scoring with a tidy finish off a Bowen assist.

Despite being a bit further down the pecking order than a Miley, Irving does make up for it with a slightly increased attacking potential.
