Transfer Overview:
Transfer:
From Nottingham Forest to Newcastle.
Tranfer Fee:
£52 million plus £3 million in add ons.
Contract Length:
5 years. Contract runs until 2030.
Wage:
No reporting on his wages as of yet.
Individual Analysis:
Position:
Right winger. He favours his left foot a lot so playing off the right suits him more than playing on the left, and with Gordon and Barnes in the squad, you would have to think Elanga is a Jacob Murphy upgrade.

Role & Stats:
Elanga is well rounded winger with dynamic pace, power, dribbling and ball carrying abilities. He also tends to make good decisions in the final third and knows when to cut inside and look to score vs going on the outside for cutbacks, which is how he got a lot of his assists, or when to cross from wider areas.
He is electric on the counter attack and makes a strength of Newcastle’s even stronger. Just watch his goal against Man United at the City Ground last season. Little more need be said.
Elanga scored 6 goals from 4.5xG showing he slightly overperformed his xG, which as we know is likely indicative of highly efficient finishing abilities. Elanga being a good finisher is backed up by his post-shot xG of 7.36xG. Now that he is playing for a much more possession based team that has more attacking talent and creates far more chances per game than Forest, I think it is a very safe bet to assume his goal numbers will improve playing alongside Isak, Gordon, Barnes, Grimaraes, Tonali etc.
Forest finished 15th in xG and 14th in Big Chances Created, whereas Newcastle without Elanga finished 4th and 8th in those areas respectively. Elanga’s surroundings have improved significantly.
Elanga finished 3rd last season for assists in the Premier League with 11, only behind Salah and now teammate Jacob Murphy. He got those 11 assists from 5.1xA, so definitely over-performed there, likely helped by Chris Wood’s elite finishing last season. However, Wood to Isak is hardly a finishing downgrade.
Furthermore, the Swedish winger created an excellent 50 chances last season. Only 20 players in the league created more than 55 chances last season and now Elanga goes to a superior attacking side that should allow him to improve his already good chance creation numbers.

Expected Minutes:
I expect him to be the starting right winger for Eddie Howe’s side in GW1. He is a younger, more athletic and more talented player with a higher ceiling. Newcastle also don’t spend £52 million on bench players, at least not at this stage of their project.
I would expect Elanga to start 30+ league games health permitting.
FPL Position:
Cheap Midfielder
FPL Analysis:
I expect Elanga to probably start at £6.5 million making him a relatively cheap Midfielder, but his ownership and price could climb quickly with consistent starts and some early production.
He likely sits in a price point where most FPL managers would prefer to own other players. It seems more logical to either own a slightly more expensive & secure Midfield asset like an Mbeumo or Bowen, or a similar priced one like Doku or Savio who is more attractive because they play for a superior attacking team, or attempt to find a top differential asset in players like Semenyo or Mitoma.
This could all change once Elanga is wearing the shirt and maybe sees a bump in production playing for a better team that has far more possession and creates far more chances, which I do anticipate will happen especially as I believe his expected minutes will be very secure.
If he does share the right wing minutes with Murphy more than we anticipate, and his production does not really take a spike then of course his value plummets.
Team Impact:
Elanga makes Newcastle an even more athletic team which is already a strength of theirs. Their press will be scary at times and the pace and power they have on the counter attack will cause teams serious trouble.
If Newcastle keep all of their most important players while adding Elanga, that is a team that could score a lot of goals especially against the bottom 8-10 teams in the league. Newcastle will score more goals this season than last due to a signing like Elanga.
Elanga allows Newcastle to move players like Murphy and Barnes into bench roles, which gives Newcastle stronger options off the bench to change games.
He also could help Isak hit that 25 goal in a Premier League season mark. The pace and chance creation he brings could help Isak take another jump which is scary to think about for one of the 3 best strikers in the world.
FPL Price Range Prediction:
£6.5m-£7.0m
My Prediction:
Elanga likely won’t be in my FPL team in GW1 if he is £7.0m, but he will be someone I am watching in the early weeks of the season.
I am anticipating his goal output could increase fairly significantly in a much more attack minded, possession based team that creates more chances, and better chances, which Newcastle are compared to Forest. If that happens, he may be someone I look to transfer in before his price rises too much.
If Elanga starts the season at £6.5m, that changes everything. The kind of season I am anticipating from the Swede is a value at £6.5m and he may be my 5th midfielder if that is the case, while I go cheap on GK and on my third and fourth choice Defenders.
